  WILL of THOMAS GAVIN Abt. 1732 to 1814 NOTES: Thomas Gavin S.C. Barnwell District Personally appeared before me, William Gressett who being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelical of Almighty God doth make and say he saw Thomas Gavin sign, seal, publish and declare the within to be and contain his last will and testament. November 14, 1814. Mrs. Mary Gavin, qualified as administrator with will annexed by 11 December 1814. THOMAS GAVIN (on face of will) I Charles Gavin executor in the forgiving will do hereby certify to the ordinary of Barnwell Dist., that Mr. Thomas Gavin resided at the time of his death in Barnwell that he had no residence in Colleton Dist., and that I do not wish to qualify on the aforesaid will. Thomas Gavin, of the Colleton District, planter being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory that’s be given unto God and calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that is appointed for all men once to died do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say first and principally of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it and body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial. At the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but of God and as touching such wordily estate herewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life. I give and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Gavin, four Negroes; Hester, Lucy, Jim and Caesar and I also give to my beloved wife; Mary, Grace, Ellen and Maria during her natural life or widowhood and after my wife’s decease or marriage then to descent to my beloved children as follows” Grace to my son Charles Mary to my son John Ellen to my son Abraham Thomas Mariah to my daughter Eliza Ann And remand of my real estate and personal at my decease to my above children, my lawful debts being paid out of the same and I do herby nominate and appoint my beloved friend and kinsman Charles Gavin executor of this my last will and testament and I do herby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testament and executors in witness whereof I have hereunto set me hand and seal this fourteenth day of March, in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and eleven.
