John T. CRUMPTON and Mary ALDERMAN named their first child Rachel and their fourth daughter Rebecca. Their first son was named Daniel, which was Mary's father's name; their second son was named Thomas. While these were all certainly common names at the time, the conjunction of all of them and the order in which they were used are points in favor of considering Thomas and Rachel CRUMPTON as John T.'s parents.

I've been searching for 25 years for the parents of Theophilus Nichols, born 16 Jan 1808, possibly Duplin County, died 11 Feb 1881 Bulloch County, GA
.Theophilus was born out of wedlock, and family lore says his mother was a Nichols, his father a Mann. His mother died either in childbirth or shortly after his birth. He may have been apprenticed at a young age to a carpenter, as he was a master carpenter. The story is that he was reared by maternal grandparents and left home at age 12 to go to Burke County, GA, where some uncles lived. By the 1830s he was in Bulloch County, GA, where on 18 Feb 1838 he married Rebecca Crumpton. Rebecca, daughter of John T. Crumpton and Mary Alderman, was born in Duplin County, which is what makes me wonder if Theophilus came from Duplin as well.
