His son's name was Samuel QUINTON and his wife's name was Mary HUMPHRY. Samuel and Mary lived in the part of North Carolina which became York South Carolina when the boundry lines changed. Do you have anything on a Mary Humphry? Thank you,

My g.g.g.g. grandfather, Isaac HERRING was born June 7, 1789 in Duplin Co. N.C. He married a Nancy ( maiden name unknown) moved to Saluda District of Edgefield Co. S.C. prior to 1820. They had seven children, including my g.g.g. grandfather John HERRING. Isaac died there May 4, 1878 and is buried in the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetary in Saluda S.C. I had believed that his parents were Isaac (b. 1761 in Duplin Co.) and Nancy Ann Shotwell (GAINEY) a widow of Meredith GAINEY. Isaac and Ann had nine (9) children one of which was a Isaac HERRING born approx. the same time as my g.g.g.g.grandfather. I have since come across a document that leads me to believe that they may not have been his parents. Does any other HERRING researchers have any information that may help me with this?

I am looking for info on my gg grandparents, Richard Blackledge HATCH and Julia KORNEGAY. Richard HATCH was the son of Richard Blackledge HATCH and Clarissa RHODES and Julia KORNEGAY was the daughter of DanieL KORNEGAY and Nancy ROBERTS. I lost track of them between the 1870 and 1880 census, in the 1880 census their children were living with his sister, Marie Louisa HATCH and her husband, Dr. Daniel SMITH. In the "Goldsboro Messenger" of late 1875, there is an article indicating that a Richard B. HATCH was murdered in his home in Mt. Olive. I don't know if this is the same one or not, as a 1st cousin of his was also named Richard Blackledge HATCH. I have no indication at all what happened to Julia KORNEGAY HATCH. Would like to find out what happened to them and where their final resting places are. Also looking for info on Christopher Columbus BYRD who died in Calypso in 1909, especially

I am at my wits end. We have an ancestor that seems to be very elusive. We know his dates and where he is buried, but to go any further is a problem. There are two stories about this person. His name is James NEWCOMB. Story number one was that his parents died and he and his siblings were bonded out and life was very difficult for them to say the least. James joined the North during the war saying he knew what it was like being a slave. Story number two is that his parents were full Tuscarora Indians and were killed when Indians were being rounded up for the Trail of Tears. He and his siblings were taken in by a hunter named Newcomb that found the bodies of the parents. James and his siblings were reared by this man and his wife and they took his last name. This was supposed to have occurred in Duplin County. Were there ever any Tuscarora Indians in the Duplin County area? I am just wondering if this was possible. Thanks,
