My husbands family ended slavery in Hallsville NC, or that is the story they have always heard. In Feb, on a trip to D.C. I started poking through the census records, now I hooked. Last week I searched the entire census for Duplin Co, 1870 nd 1880 and I can't find his family. We were told that his grand father, Jerry Hall, was born in Hallsville in about 1868 (year from 1900 census). No one knows his parents names, but he was raised by his grandfather Ned Hall.
I'd like to know if you can offer any suggestions for searching NC since I know nothing about the area. Also can you offer advice about getting plantation records from that area. I appreciate any help you can give me to aid in my search.
By the way what happened to the town.
Thank you
It been REAL :-) ANNIE HALL

I am interested in the parents of a Charity WOOD who married John BRINSON,Jr about January 1799 in Duplin Co.,NC. Both were born about 1780 according to the census of South Carolina of 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850. Information suggests that the father of Charity WOOD may be John, Peter, or Simon of the 1790 census of Duplin Co., NC. There is another possibility that Edward WOOD of the 1790 census of New Hanover may be also her father. This is possible since it is highly suspect that the John's Jr. and Sr. BRINSON's were of South Carolina in Horry Co. in the 1790 census and lived very near or at the state line. These individuals later were residents of Charleston Co., S.C. John, SR. is believed to be born about 1755-1760 and the son of a Mathew BRINSON of the 1790 census in Horry Co, SC and died in 1809 and left his will. Mathew BRINSON's parents alson unknown, but suspect he is the son of Adam BRINSON.
