Prominent Duplin Farmer Dies 

Robert L. (Bob) Summerlin, 72, retired farmer, died Monday at his home in 
the Summerlin Cross Roads Community after several years of declining health. 
Funeral services were held at Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church at 2:30
p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Stephen A. Smith, Free Will Baptist minister of 
Beulaville, officiating. Interment was in the family cemetery. 
Surviving are Mrs. Summerlin, formerly Nealia Kilpatrick; eight daughters, 
Mrs. Florence Houston of Warsaw, Mrs. D. F. Chambers of Kenansville, Mrs. 
Carl Ivey, Mrs. Walter Hinson and Mary G. Summerlin, all of the home 
community, Mrs. Edward Goodson of Raleigh, Mrs. Bernard Goodson of Red 
Springs, and Mrs. James Southerland of Seven Springs; one son, Robert, of 
Chapel Hill; three sisters, Mrs. T. A. Jernigan of Mt. Olive, Mrs. Addie 
Potter of Goldsboro, and Mrs. Uggie Batten of Hallsboro; one brother, G. 
L. Summerlin of the home community; nine grandchildren and one great 
grandchild.
