Wallace - Mrs. Myrtle Batts Cavanaugh, age 82, of Wallace, died
unexpectedly Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Northeast
Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Billy D. Toler and
Dr. Aubrey Jones. Burial will follow in the Jacob Cavanaugh Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grady (Dovie) Bryant of Wallace and
Mrs. Eugene (Elizabeth) Simpkins of Jacksonville; one son, Donald
Cavanaugh of Rocky Mount, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Cavanuagh [sic] was the daughter of the
late Francis and Lizzie Jane Hanchey Batts and was the widow of the late
Rayford H. Cavanaugh.
She was a member of the Northeast Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church.
Casketbearers will be Thomas Cavenaugh, Earl Cavenaugh, Stanley Cavenaugh,
Mitford Walker, Dan Norris and Tony Bradshaw.
The family will receive at the Edgerton Funeral Home in Wallace from 7:30
to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bryant,
210 N. Cumberland St., Wallace, other times.
The body will remain at the Edgerton Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Thursday
morning when it will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior
to the service.
