Obituary of Myrtle Futrell Wood Brown ~ 1992

Rose Hill - Mrs. Myrtle Futrell Wood Brown, age 74, of 201 W. Ridge St., 
in Rose Hill, died Saturday night, Feb. 8, at New Hanover Regional Medical 
Center in Wilmington after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, from the Rose 
Hill Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ben Howard, 
Rev. Fred Pleasant and Rev. David Smith. Burial will follow in Rockfish 
Memorial Cemetery near Wallace.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore Russell Brown; four daughters, 
Mrs. Robert (Atlee) Riedel and Mrs. Wayne (Emily) Mertz, both of Findlay, 
Ohio, Mrs. Bill (Donna) English and Mrs. Frank (Lydia) Williford, both of 
Goldsboro, one son, Gerald Wood and wife, Margie of Petersburg, Va.; four 
sisters, Mrs. Mary Lillie Norris of Beulaville, Mrs. Eunice Hazelwood of 
Wilmington, Mrs. Evelyn Scheel of Gallatin, Tenn., and Mrs. Lena 
Gerhardstein of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Willie Futrell of Rose 
Hill; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-granchildren.
A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Richard 
Morton and Myrtie Batts Futrell. She was pre-deceased by her first 
husband, Frank Wood; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Catherine Boykin; and two 
brothers, Richard Ray Futrell and Allen Sherman Futrell. She was a member 
of the Rose Hill Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she had served 
as musician for approximately 40 years and was honored lst year for 50 
plus years for her Christian Music Ministry.
Casketbearers will be David Mertz, Steve Wood, Bob Riedel, Mark Riedel, 
Michael Riedel and Jeffery Wood. Honorary bearers will be Pete Garris,
Bill Smith, Charles Cottle, Edward Chestnutt and Arthur R. Cavanaugh Sr.
The family will receive at the Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace from 7 to 9 
p.m. Monday and will be at the Fellowship Hall of the Rose Hill 
Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Chruch in Rose Hill other times.
The body will remain at the funeral home until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when it 
will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior the service.
