Mrs. Martha A. Lucas Dies at Rocky Point - Rocky Point, June 4.- Mrs. Martha Armstrong Lucas, 89, widow of Captain W. H. Lucas of Middleton, Hyde county, died today at the home here of her sister, Mrs. Barbara Armstrong Pearsall, following a ten weeks' illness. Mrs. Lucas was a woman of sterling Christian character and was interested and active in all civic and religious work of her community. She taught public school for 32 years. She was preceded to the grave by her husband, 31 years ago. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. B. A. Pearsall; two step-daughters, Misses Lilly and Sallie Lucas of Raleigh; two step-sons, David, of Washington, and Harry, of Raleigh; the following nephews and nieces; T. P. , W. W., and R. D. Pearsall, Martha A. Pearsall, and the Rev. T. J. Armstrong, all of Rocky Point; seven great nieces, seven great nephews, and one great, great niece. Funeral services will be conducted at the Rocky Point Presbyterian church of which Mrs. Lucas was a member, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the Rev. Henry R. Poole, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. P. L. Clark, pastor of the Burgaw Presbyterian church, and the Rev. Mr. Johnson, pastor of the Rocky Point and Burgaw Methodist churches. Interment will follow at the Pike Creek cemetery. The pallbearers will be: honorary, Dr. R. J. Williams, T. E. Haynes, W. W. Miller, A. N. Rhodes, W. H. Peden, John B. Armstrong and J. R. Bannerman. Active, W. S. Balcombe, Richard Croom, Henry Duncan, R. W. Southerland, Roger Futch and Andrew Gurganous.

Note: Martha Ann Armstrong was the daughter of Thomas James Armsrong and Martha Ann Wilson. She and Wilson Hodges (W. H.) Lucas were married in Rocky Point, NC on 19 Mar 1889. W. H. Lucas was at the time a State Senator in the Second Senatorial district from Hyde Co, NC.
