Obituary of Leon Norwood Cavenaugh ~ 1994

Harrells - Mr. Leon Norwood Cavenaugh, age 64, of Route 2, Harrells, died 
unexpectedly of a heart attack Tuesday morning, March 15, at Pender 
Memorial Hospital in Burgaw.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 17, from the 
Padgett Funeral Chapel in Wallace, conducted by Rev. Jeanne Ray. 
Burial will follow in the Cavenaugh Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joan Cavenaugh; one daughter, Ms. Deborah 
Cavenaugh of Wilmington; two sons, Michael Leon and wife, Virginia 
Cavenaugh, of Harrells and Kenneth Hoover Cavenaugh, of New York City, 
N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Norman (Virginia) Hanchey and Louise Hardison, 
both of Wallace; two brothers, Raymond Cavenaugh of Richmond, Va. and 
Rifton Cavenaugh of Wallace; and three grandchildren, Joanna Layne Powers, 
Samuel Hunter Powers and Michael Casey Cavenaugh.
Born in Duplin County, Mr. Cavenaugh was the son of the late Gaylor A. and 
Cora Brown Cavenaugh. He was retired from the Federal Government as a 
Planner Estimator and was a member of Forestville Baptist Church in 
Forestville, Maryland.
Casketbearers will be: Chris Hoover, Thomas Hoover, Nicholas Gazaleh, Tony 
Cavenaugh, Earl Hanchey and Bobby Cavenaugh. Honorary bearers will be: 
Michael Lynn Cavenaugh, Emmett Hanchey, Thurmond Hardison, Dennis Carr, 
Zak Gazaleh, G. Michael Cavenaugh, Richard Cavenaugh and Vernon Cavenaugh 
Jr.
The family received at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 
will be at their residence, Route 2, Harrells, other times.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Kidney 
Foundation of New York, 1250 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10001.
