J. W. Cavenaugh Sr., 92, 142 Gordon Road, died Saturday morning at his 
residence after a long illness.
Cavenaugh was born in Duplin County, October 26, 1876, the son of the late 
B. F. and Elizabeth Howard Cavenaugh.
He was supervisor of New Hanover County Farms for many years and was a 
member of the Unitarian Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Fannie Lawhorne Cavenaugh of the home; 
three sons, J.W. Cavenaugh Jr., Castle Hayne, Johnny Earl Cavenaugh, 
Winnabow and 1st Sgt. Lewis Adolp Cavenaugh, Vietnam, seven daughters, 
Miss Nola Cavenaugh, Mrs. Carrie Watkins, Mrs. Magnolia Mintz, Mrs. Ida 
Mae Guthre, Mrs. Sadie Lee Yopp, all of Wilmington, Mrs. Louise Nobles, 
Cerro Gordo, and Mrs. Mary Pearl Bonham, Rocky Point; two brothers, John
W. Cavenaugh, Watha and Frank Cavenaugh, all of Jacksonville; 36 
grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 142 Gordon Road and at Coble Funeral Home Sunday 
from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Coble Funeral Service.

Funeral services for J. W. Cavenaugh Sr. will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday 
in Coble's Chapel by the Rev. B. A. Porter and the Rev. David Casey. 
Burial will be in the Bryan Cemetery.
The following grandsons will be pallbearers, Johnny Kelly, Linwood Guthrie,
John A. Yopp III, L. O. Mintz, Howard Mintz, Rufus Bonham Jr., Tommy 
Cavenaugh and Cecil Ray Cavenaugh.
