Burgaw - John Edward Lanier, 89, died early Wednesday morning in Pender 
Memorial Hospital in Burgaw.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Edgerton Funeral 
Chapel in Wallace conducted by Rev. Allen Griffin and Rev. Phillip Denton. 
Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park near Watha.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Lanier and Tracy Lanier Sr., both of 
Burgaw; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Bradham of Chinquapin and Mrs. Bertie 
Hatcher of Beulaville; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and five 
great-great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late Zeb Thomas and 
Victoria Lanier. He was a retired farmer, a veteran of World War I, having 
served in the U.S. Army, and was a former member of the Red Door Baptist 
Church.
Casketbearers will be Michael Lanier, Jeffrey Lanier, Wayne Lanier, Tracy 
Lanier Jr., Stephen Lanier, Gary Lanier and Clifton Lanier.
The family will receive at the Edgerton Funeral Home in Wallace from 7 to 
9 p.m. Thursday and will be at Mr. Lanier's residence, Route 1, Burgaw, 
other times.
