Obituary of James Clifton Cavenaugh ~ 1998

Mr. James Clifton Cavenaugh Sr., 81, of 5300 Castle Hayne Road, Castle 
Hayne, N.C. died November 4, 1998 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Cavenaugh was born in Duplin County, N.C. March 16, 1917 to the late 
Carmer and Susan Walker Cavenaugh. He was preceded in death by a son, 
Glynn E. Cavenaugh Sr. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army 
as a Technical Sergeant, receiving the Eamet Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze 
Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Silver Star Medal and was a member 
of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Helen H. Cavenaugh of the 
home; two sons, James Clifton Cavenaugh Jr. of Carolina Beach, N.C. and 
David Wayne Cavenaugh and wife, Rachel of Rocky Point, N.C., one daughter, 
Elanine Cavenaugh Peterson and husband, David of Wilmington, N.C.; one 
brother, Frank Cavenaugh and wife, Gladys of Castle Hayne, N.C.; one 
sister, Hazel Jenkins and husband, Roy of Castle Hayne, N.C.; eight 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a dear friend, Chris 
Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 1998 in the 
Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel with Reverend Kenny Chinn
officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Cavenaugh, Bruce Cavenaugh, Gary Cavenaugh, Jeff 
Cavenaugh, Stevie Rivenbark and Roy Lanier.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at 
the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
