Hubert B. Carter, 77, Succumbs 

Hubert Bertree Carter, aged 77, of 503 Forest Lane, Wallace, died early 
Friday morning in Sampson Memorial Hospital in Clinton after a short 
illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday at three o'clock from the Wallace 
Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. L. Edgar Whitlock, pastor. 
Burial was in the family plot in Brice's Cemetery. 
He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Norriss, of the home; also 
one brother, M. O. Carter of Salisbury.
A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late Christopher T. and 
Alice Register Carter. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the 
Wallace American Legion Post No. 156, a member of the Wallace Baptist 
Church,and was a member of the Wallace Advisory Board of the Salvation 
Army. He was a retired stereotype operator for The Washington Post in 
Washington, D.C.
Active pallbearers were Wendell Teachey, W. C. English, Jr., Craig King, 
Joe Pane, Jr., Joe Johnson and Charles Blackwelder.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the T. J. Baker Sunday School Class, 
the Wallace American Legion Post No. 156, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the 
American Legion.
Visitations were at Edgerton Funeral Home until 1:30 p.m. Saturday when 
the body was taken to the church to remain until the service.
