Obituary of Helen Lavern Herring Carter ~ 2012





Helen H. Carter, 68

MAGNOLIA — Mrs. Helen Lavern Herring Carter, 68 of 131 Merritt Rd. died
Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Tyndall Grove Pentecostal 
Holiness Church with the Rev. Larry Barnhill officiating.
Born in 1943 in Sampson County, Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late 
Durwin Lavern “Knotty” and Dorothy Mae Blackburn Herring Marley. She was 
the widow of Fred “Buck” Anderson Carter, Jr.
She is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Butler of Magnolia, Willa Dean 
“Dee” Matthis and husband, Lewis Steven of Magnolia, Jane Munoz and 
husband Mark of Clinton; two sons, Dennis Craig Carter of Rose Hill and 
Marcus Dwayne Carter of Turkey; three sisters, Carolyn Strickland of 
Harrells, Bonnie Kaye Knowles and Jimmy of Magnolia, Kathy Quinn and 
husband, Joe of Rose Hill; five brothers, Charles “Bud” Herring and wife 
Reba of Turkey, Larry Herring of Harrells, Henry Herring and wife Carolyn 
of Clinton, Jackie Herring and wife Sherry of Magnolia, Tommy Herring and 
wife Cathy of Turkey; step-father, Grady Marley of Rose Hill; three 
step-sisters, Tammy Lee of Burgaw, Janice Krontz of Wilmington and Evelyn 
Sinclair of Wilmington; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Howard.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 until 8 p.m. at 
Royal-Hall Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Jane 
Munoz, 6344 Taylors Bridge Hwy., Clinton.

Water Ways, P. O. Box 171, Clinton, NC 28328.
