Obituary of Gladys Mae Savage Thigpen ~ 1984

Wallace - Mrs. Gladys Mae Savage Thigpen, age 78, of Route 2, Wallace, 
died Wednesday afternoon in Medical Park Nursing Center in Mount Olive 
after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Edgerton Funeral Chapel 
conducted by Dr. Aubrey Jones. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial 
Park near Watha.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Hallie (Mary Gladys) Smith of 
Wallace, Mrs. Hubert (Annie) Boone of Magnolia, Mrs. Effie Griffin of 
Newport and Mrs. Louis (Faye) Midgette of Sneads Ferry; two sons, Johnnie 
Thigpen of Burgaw and Leon Thigpen of San Pedro, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. 
Laura Brock of Beulaville, 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Thigpen was the daughter of the late 
Jerry and Ida Savage.
She was the widow of Roland Thigpen.
She was a member of the Chinquapin Presbyterian Church.
Casketbearers will be Melvin Boone, Allen Boone, Wade Smith, Buddy 
Griffin, Michael Midgette and Ricky Wood.
The family received at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday and 
will be at the residence of Mrs. Hallie (Mary Gladys) Smith, 209 W. Carr 
St. in Wallace other times.
