Obituary of Ethel Cavenaugh Butler Jordan Kerr ~ 1986

Wilmington - Mrs. Ethel Cavanaugh Kerr, 81, of 521 Dogwood Lane,
Wilmington, died in New Hanover Memorial Hospital Monday evening after
a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Kerr was born in Richlands, N.C. on June 5, 1905 the daughter of the
late James and Lucy Foster Cavanaugh. She was the widow of Robert G. Kerr
who died in 1978. She moved to Wilmington from Clinton in 1955, later
opening the Duchess Beauty Salon. She also operated a beauty salon from
her home at 301 Bradley Drive. Mrs. Kerr was a member of the Immanuel
Independent Presbyterian Church.
Surviving is her son, Chip Jordan of Wilmington; her daughters, Mrs. Olive
B. Moore and Mrs. Jacqueline B. White both of Wilmington; four brothers,
James Cavanaugh of New Bern, Nick Cavanaugh of Jacksonville, N.C., Sidney
Cavanaugh of Wilmington, and Elmer Cavanaugh of California; two sisters,
Mrs. Irma Lewis and Mrs. Nancy Woods both of Orlando, Florida; five
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 1986 in
the Coble Ward-Smith Oleander Chapel with the Rev. Rod White officiating.
Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The family will be in attendance at the funeral home between the hours of
7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday to receive friends, and at other
times will be at 521 Dogwood Lane.
Casketbearers will be Ronnie Cavanaugh, Jimmy Cavanaugh, Billy Cavanaugh,
Jessie Butler, O.D. Sandy, Jerry Lilly.
Honorary bearers will be Bud Tomlinson, Ed Palmeter, Mike Piner, George
Landen, Julian Mallard, George Brooks, John Mims, Don Stegall, Bill
Sutton, Bill Johnson, John Vincent, Claude Platt, Cecil Hunt, Jack
Albertson, Jack Milliken, Bill Carter, Tim Byrd, Joe Dan Byrd, Hugh
Smith, Graham Butler, Jack Overfield, Dr. Bertram Williams, and Charles
Reynolds.
