Obituary of Charles Irving Cavenaugh ~ 1983

Charles Irving Cavenaugh of 1709 S. Liveoak Parkway died Monday at his 
residence after a long illness.
He was born in Newberry, S.C., the son of Eli and Mollie Denning Cavenaugh 
and lived in Wilmington most of his life. He was retired from the Seaboard 
Coast Line after 43 years in the purchasing department.
During World War II he was commissioned in the 703rd Railway Grand Division
of the U.S. Army Engineers and served in the African, Middle East and 
European theaters. He was separated from the Army in 1946 with the rank of 
Lieutenant Colonel.
Mr. Cavenaugh is survived by his wife, Omah Williams Cavenaugh of the home;
one daughter, Mrs. Jane Kilpatrick of Chapel Hill, N.C.; five 
grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Mary Cavenaugh of Atlanta, and Mrs. Madge 
Childs of Midland, Texas; one brother, James D. Cavenaugh of Tampa, Fla.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 o'clock in the Chapel of 
Andrews Mortuary. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
