JOHNSON - Mrs. Bessie L. Johnson, of 3805 Hollingsworth St., died Wednesday. She was born in North Carolina and had lived in Jacksonville since 1935. She was a member of the First Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Miss Elizabeth T. Johnson; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Gordon Lunt; 2 sons, Loftin and Forest Johnson; and a number of grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the graveside in Oaklawn Cemetery, with Rev. J. Tom Sofge and Rev. Michael C. Loomis officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements by Hardage-Krauss Riverside Funeral Home, 517 Park St.

Note: Mary Elizabeth "Bessie" Loftin Johnson was born in Duplin County on 16 July 1881, the daughter of Dr. I. C. M. Loftin and Anne Elizabeth Pearsall. Mary married James Edwin Johnson, on 15 Feburary 1905 at the Rountree House in Wilmington, NC. James Edwin Johnson died on 12 Oct 1918 in Fair Bluff, Columbus Co, NC.
