MOUNT OLIVE -- A. Thomas Sutton, 57, of the Scott's Store community, died 
Monday at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home chapel
with the Rev. Frank Harrison and the Rev. Billy Ray Jordan officiating. 
Fellow firemen will serve as pallbearers and members of Duplin County Fire 
Association Honor Guard will participate in the service. Following the 
funeral service, the family will remain at the funeral home to receive 
friends. At other times, they will be at the home of Sandra and Ross Head, 
Jr., 2313 N. C. Hwy. 55 East, Mount Olive.
Committal and interment will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Long Ridge Free Will 
Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Sutton, a member of Long Ridge Church since July of 1962, had served 
as deacon for 20 years. In January 1970, he joined Oak Wolfe Volunteer 
Fire Department and for more than 20 years he served as assistant chief. 
At the time of his death he was a member of its board of directors. He was 
a former member of the Mount Olive Fire Department. He had 21 years of 
service with Tri County Electric Membership Corp., where he was employed 
as serviceman and was formerly load management coordinator. He was a 
former employee of Jenkins Gas and Oil in Mount Olive and had served in 
the North Carolina National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Jones Sutton; his mother, Nellie Wilkins 
Sutton Parker of Mount Olive; two sisters, Sandra S. Head and husband, 
Ross Head Jr., of Mount Olive, and Carolyn S. Hardy of Raleigh; a brother, 
Bill Tucker and his wife, Dolores, of Sarasota, Fla.; three stepchildren, 
Jill B. Parks and husband, Nelson, of Mount Olive, Todd Barwick of Clinton,
and Karen B. Cox and husband, James Ray, of Grantham; three grandchildren, 
Morgan Parks, Skyler Parks and Ashton Cox; five nieces; five nephews; and 
many cousins. He is also survived by the Parker family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Sutton; an infant brother; 
and his stepfather, Clifton Parker.
