Obituary of Arlie Adell Cavenaugh ~ 1979

Wallace - Arlie Adell Cavanaugh, 68, died Friday at his home at Rt. 2 
Wallace after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held today at 
2:30 p.m. from the Pen Hook Pentacostal Free Will Baptist Chruch conducted 
by the Rev. Samuel W. Swinson and the Rev. Ronnie Heath.
Burial will follow in the Henderson Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Trudy Heath Cavanaugh; one daughter, Mrs. 
Lucy Ellen Godwin, of Newport; one son, Arlie Elmo Cavanaugh, of 
Kenansville; six stepdaughters, Mrs. Mrs. Mildred Albertson, Mrs. Gladys 
Casteeen, and Mrs. Gracie Padgett, all of Wallace, Mrs. Louise Farmer, of 
Boulton, Miss Ester Henderson, of Colonial Heights, Va., and Mrs. Nettie 
Batchelor, of Jacksonville; three stepsons, Adell Henderson, of Wallace, 
Joe Henderson of Burgaw, and Harry Sholar of Wallace; one sister, Mrs. 
Mertie Sholar, of Wallace; four brothers, Cyrus Cavanaugh, of Warsaw, 
Carroll Cavanaugh of Magnolia, Steven Cavanaugh, and J. Buel Cavanaugh, 
both of Wallace; five grandchildren; 50 step-grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late Riley and Mary Ellen 
Brown Cavanaugh and was a retired farmer.
Casketbearers will be Denver McMahan, Donnie Sholar, Jerry Walker, R.C. 
James, Willie Ashworth and Willis Sholar. Honorary bearers will be Russell 
Pierce, Harold Cavanaugh, Earl Cavanaugh, Dalton Sholar, Elmer Cavanaugh 
and Delwood Cavanaugh.
The body was taken from Edgerton Funeral Home in Wallace to the residence 
Saturday morning to lie in state until 12:30 p.m. Sunday when it will be 
taken to the church.
