In Memory of
Dorothy Lee "Dot" Clontz White
WHITE, Dorothy Lee Clontz, departed this life September 13, 2011 in peaceful
anticipation at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert
Luther Clontz and Minnie Odessa Beckham Clontz of Charlotte, N.C.; and her
former husband, Robert Haywood White; her two sons, Robert Edward White of
Powder Springs, Ga., and Donald Haywood White of Henrico, Va. She leaves
to cherish her memory her daughter-in-law, Martha White; two grandchildren,
Jaime and Ashley; and one great-grandchild, Asher; and a host of cousins,
nieces, other relatives, and friends. Dorothy served the home front during
World War II as an operator with Southern Bell in Charleston, S.C., and
Charlotte, N.C. Throughout her long and productive life, she worked with
churches and groups such as the American Association of Retired Persons,
where she served as Florida manager of the AARP-VOTE project. Dorothy was
a dedicated and tireless genealogist and a valued member of the Chancellor
Wythe Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. A memorial service
for Dorothy will be led by the Rev. April Greenwood, Vicar at Varina
Episcopal Church, 2385 Mill Road, Henrico, Va. 23231, on Wednesday evening,
September 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to consider
donating a non-perishable food item to the Food Pantry ministry of Varina
Episcopal Church for distribution to the community. Dorothy will be
interred with her former husband later at the Salisbury, N.C. national
cemetery.
