Stephens Bearing date (14 May 1761) and since sold and Conveyed by the said
Hardy Stevens to Jacob Fryer By Deed Bearing date (28 June 1770) and since
sold and Conveyed by the said Jacob Fryer to said Charles Chesnutt by deed
Bearing date" 28 August 1772. The second tract consisted of 43 acres
"Beginning.on the Run of Rowan Swamp the Corner of his Other sruvey." Deed
mentions "the Run of Rowan Swamp above the fork." Land was "part of a tract
of .(168) acres of land which was granted to Dempsey Carrell By pattent
Bearing date (24 December 1770) and since sold and Conveyed by the said
Dempsey Carrell to said Charles Chesnutt by deed Bearing date" 28 January
1774. The third tract consisted of 242 acres "On the branches of Rowan swamp
Joining the Other land herein mentioned Beginning.by the side of the broad
Branch Hardy Stevens Corner." Deed mentions Rowan Swamp Marsh, the patent
line, Clinton's line, and "the marsh of the broad Branch." Land was "granted
to Richard Stevens by patent Bearing date (28 February 1775) and since sold
and conveyed to (sic) the said Richard Stevens to the said Charles Chesnutt
By Deed Bearing date" 18 March 1780. Deed states that the total number of
acres conveyed was 401 acres, "Two Acres of which is to be deducted out of

Deed Book 9 page 85 Deed: Charles Murphrey and Sarah Murphrey, his wife, to
Jacob Chesnutt. Dated:6 March 1792. Trans.: 110 pounds "Current money of the
State of North Carolina" for 240 acres "On the Head of Rowan Swamp Beginning
at a Large pine the North side of the main prong of said swamp a Corner tree
of Richard Stephens pattent & line thereof John Dollars Corner," etc. Deed
mentions a pond, "the mouth of some Gutters" (sic), Michael Mixson's
patent, and Henry Carter. Line ran "to the Run of said Rowan Swamp up the Run
of said swamp as it meanders to the fork thence a Cross the main prong to
the South Edge of said swamp," etc. Land was "a part of tracts." Wit.: John
Chesnutt, Jr. and Jacob Chesnutt, Jr.
Deed Book 9 page 127 Deed: Charles Murphrey to Joshua Chesnutt. Dated: 18
October 1792. Trans.:30 pounds specia for 82 acres "on the west side of the
six Runs and on the head of Rowan swamp Beginning On the Back line of
Richard Stevens Pattent and on the head of a small Branch thence down the
said Branch the Run of it as it meanders to a white Oak on the Run of said
Branch at the main prong of said Rowan swamp and thence up the South Edge of
the main prong of said swamp as it Meanders to a pine Jacob Chesnutts agreed
Corner, "etc. Land was "part of a tract of (125) acres of land pattented by
said Stephens Bearing date (24 May 1773) seven acres of the said land in the
fork of the two said branches Being part of Two Other tracts pattented By
Michael Mixson and John Dollar." Wit.: Jacob Chesnutt,Sr., and Jacob
Chesnutt, Jr.
Deed Book 9 page 169 Deed: Josiah Nolley (Nolly;of Duplin County) to Jacob
Chesnutt, Jr.,(of "the County.aforesaid"). Dated: (blank) 1787. Trans.:18
pounds specia for 150 acres "On the west side of the six Runs and North side
of Rowan swamp Beginning at and Open pond on the pattent line." Deed
mentions the head of the Watery Branch. The line ran down the Watery Branch
to Rowan Swamp thence up Rowan Swamp to the mouth of Stevens' Branch thence
up Stevens' Branch to the mouth of a small branch thence up that branch
"extending the branch with the same Course to the first Station." Land was
"part of a tract of .(640) acres of land granted to the said Josiah Nolly
Bearing date" 9 October 1783. Wit.: John Murphrey and Joseph Scott.
Deed Book 9 page 175 Deed: William Jurden to Moses Carter. Dated: 13 May 1788.
Trans.:10 pounds specia for 100 acres "On the west side of the six Runs On
the head dreans of Rowan Swamp Beginning.by a pond John Dollars Corner."
Deed mentions Richard Stevens, a branch,and Hardy Stephens. Land was "By
pattent.granted to Hamblin Hillburn Bearing date" 26 March 1783. Wit.:
Charles Murphey and Jacob Chesnutt.
Deed Book 9 page 341 Deed: Jacob Chesnutt and Jane (Jenne) Chesnutt (his
wife) to Joshua Chesnutt (a weaver) Dated:1 August 1792. Trans.:110 pounds
"Current money of said State" for 240 acres "On the head of Rowan Swamp
Beginning at a large pine the North side of the main Prong of said swamp a
Corner tree of Richard Stuens (Stevens?) Pattent and a line tree of John
Dollars Pattent thence with said Dollars line," etc. Deed mentions a pond,"

Deed Book 10 page 7 Deed: William Ball ("Esquire") to George Lasiter, Jr.
Dated:11 May 1795. Trans.: 125 pounds specia for 200 acres "On the west side
of great Coharee Beginning.On the Swamp." Land was "as appears by pattent
Bearing date" 6 May 1760. Wit.: Joel Williams and William West.
Deed Book 10 page 156 Deed: Hardy Holmes ("Sheriff and Collector of Publick
Taxes of the County of Sampson") to William Dollar. Dated:9 February 1790.
Document states: "Whereas a distress On Jacob Dollars lands for the sum of
(2.10.0) pounds for publick Taxes for the Year 1787 for the County aforesaid
By Virtue of which distress Hardy Holmes aforesaid did enter Enter (sic)
upon and take possession of a certain tract of land.on the west Side of the
six Runs and On the head of Rowan Swamp Beginning at.Silas Myhands Corner
tree thence Josiah Prices line," etc. Deed mentions John Dollar, Richard
Stephens, Patrick O'Quin, and a pond. The tract contained 150 acres and the
sheriff "did Expose the same to sale at publick Vendue On (27 September
1788) and the said William Dollar appearing on the premises On the day
aforesaid did bid off the said tract of land at the sum of" 2.6.0 pounds.
Wit.: Jacob Butler and James Clark.
