Waller Family
Submitted by: Judy Bowman
Following is information several of us have gathered on John Waller Sr. and John Waller Jr.
My line is John Jr. I firmly believe this group of Wallers are from the Del/Md Wallers as
Nathaniel, Nathan, and Elijah all have paper ties to Md/Del. It might help others who are
researching the John Jr/Sr’s Also I am trying to get people to submit
DNA to the WALLER group so we can make the firm commitment

year)
There is a JOHN JR. and a JOHN Sr. John Sr is gone by 1790 census— A John in GA
has a Leven in 1808 –probably the John married to Rhodes and if Vern is correct last son
of Thomas MD/. A Joseph Waller moves to GA and has Leven b 1802 as far as I can
determine he did not live in Duplin so Leven of John Jr. is the only one in Duplin Co., NC
except for Nathaniels Leven who moves back ca 1840-50 after our Leven has gone to TN.
There is a reference to “Captain John Waller’s District” I have no idea to what or whom the
reference is made.

1820 censes p168 line 5 It would appear that a child of John (possibly his oldest
unknown son) the spouse and a child born 1794-1804 have moved into the home. I have
discarded the girls because evidently Sarah and Rhoda did not marry (deed of land to
Sarah Waller and Rhoda Waller by John 1825) and the younger girls have not been married
long enough to have a child born 1794-1804. OR is it the unknown children from 1810 and
another child???

1820 census LEVEN Waller I am including this for the following reasons:
Leven son of John is the only Leven in the county at this time . Leven son of
Nathaniel is born 1808 and his children are not born until the 1830’s The children in the
census are of the right age to be Leven and Charity’s. I checked the original census and
it is marked the same way. This household is on the same microfilm page as John 3
lines away. The census is ten years off on the ages of Leven and Charity Fifer Waller,
but I have inserted their names since I believe it is a census of Leven of John Jr.
1 m 16-26 Leven (1794-1804)
3 m under 10-- (1810-1820)
John E. (1815)
Amos J. (1817

1820 census James Waller has 1m 45+ and 1f 45+
It was reported by an Ann Waller that he had one female child—She was named Elizabeth,
but could it have been Jenny. I have no documentation for this or any of Ann’s notes.

1825 land deed John Waller gives Rhoda Waller 100 acres at Limestone Bk Z p. 280
1826 land deed John to Daniel Bradshaw Bk 2 p 268 and 381
1826 Duplin Co. Deed of Trust Book 2 p. 269 by John to
Daniel Bradham/Bradshaw mentions Temperance, son Leven, and
Leven Waller, James Canton and John Rogers
(there is a question about the following land in Goshen Swp—Others believe this is
Leven son of Nathaniel)
1827 deed James Grimes to Leven Bk 2 p 88 170a Goshen Swp (Probably son of
Nathaniel)
1829 deed Levin Waller to Nathaniel Waller 4B p124 170a Goshen Swp. (probably son of
John as he was moving to TN)
1830 deed Ralph Jerigan to Levin Bk 2 p 395 68a Goshen Swp (Probably son of Nathaniel)
1826-1830 Tempy dies after 1826 mention in the deed of trust bk and before 1830 census
1830 census p.175
Sarah might be living on her own land—there is a Sarah Waller in the 1840 census.
The other unidentified could be the children of those named in the 1826 document or a family.
James Costen who m. Katey is listed next to Leven (shown below p.175 in the census)
It could be one of Katey’s children (James Costen 1 m 40-50 and 1 f 40-50) James Waller
died 1822 could his wife be living with John?
