Sampson court minutes 15 August 1786 Tuesday Ordered that James Young, an
orphan boy about 13 years of age, be bound to apprentice to Samuel West for
the term of seven years to learn the art or mystery of a cooper and to
read, write and cypher as far as the rule of three. He tenders Jonathan
Parker and John Register as securities who were approved. Ordered he enter
into bond in the sum of 100 pounds. Bond filed. The Clerk is accordingly to
make out the indenture.

Summers Enzor,as special bail for the defendant,surrenders him up in
discharge of himself. Ordered that the Sheriff take him in custody.

of Purvent branch." The line ran "to a pine by Thomas Hobbs line thence
along his lince Crossing the branch," etc. Deed mentions Samuel Sellers.

Gayney. Dated: 12 August 1789. Trans.:43 pounds 8 shillings 4 pence for 200
acres of land as described below. Deed begins: "Whereas their issued from the
Court of Sampson a writ of Execution at August Sessions in the Year (1787)
and a Judgment Obtained by William Hair for the sum of (37) pounds together
with the sum of Six pounds Eight Shillings and fourpence Cost against the
good and Chattles lands and tenements of Willis West late of said County
which Execution was directed to the Sheriff of Sampson Sampson (sic) County
and it not appearing that the said Willis West had any goods and Chattles
within the said County the said Execution was levied on a tract of land in
the said County of Sampson Containing (200) acres of land as of the Estate
of the said Willis West and the said land being duly advertized for sale and
a day appointed Bartholamew Gayney was the highest bidder who legally Bought
the same for the sum of forty three pounds Eight Shillings and fourpence."

November 1789. Trans.:100 pounds "Current money of the State" for two tracts
of land. The first tract consisted of 39 acres "On the West side of great
Coheary Beginning at a pine formerly Called William Williams Corner." Deed
mentions Bartholomew Gayney and "said Holleys Patent line." Land was
"granted to said Holly by Pattent Bearing date" 12 October 1787. The second
tract consisted of 127 acres "On both sides of great Coheary Beginnning
at.his own Corner West side of Coheary opposite the mouth of Blackmans
swamp." Deed mentions Joab Blackman. Land was "part of a tract of land
granted to said Holly by Pattent bearing date" 1788 (13th year of Ind.).

a piece of his left ear. It is therefore entered on the docket to prevent

and Needham Thornton being charged of a breach of the peace; Joab
Blackman, William Williamson and Jesse Lee, their sureties, came and delivered

Sampson court minutes 14 November 1797 Tuesday James Anderson was convened
before this court being charged with begetting a bastard child on the body
of Elizabeth Goodman. Ordered that he enter into bond of 200 pounds to keep
said child from becoming in anyway chargeable to this county. He offered
Willis West and Sessums Parker as security.

summons the same,and that John Holley, Esquire, qualify the jury as the law
directs.

Sampson court minutes 9 February 1802 Tuesday Joab
Blackman, Esquire, presented a petition and prayed leave to open a new road
beginning at the main road leading from Fayetteville to Tarborough, opposite
his plantation, thence the best way to join the new road that had been
ordered layed off by Johnston County. Then it was ordered that Willis West
(and others) be a jury, or any 12 of them, to lay off the road aforesaid, and
that Alexander Benton, constable, summons the jury aforesaid, and that
Alexander Flemming Esquire, qualify the jury aforesaid as the law directs.
