(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 28, 29, & 30 William Burton to Jesse Norris Deed of 150 acres of lands To all people to whom these presents shall come greeting. Know ye that William Burton of Duplin County and province of North Carolina planter, for and in consideration of the sum of twenle pounds to be in hand well and truly paid by Jesse Norris of Duplin County and province aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself therewith fully satisfied contented and paid thereof and of every part and parcel thereof do exonorate aquit and discharge the said Jesse Norris his heirs executors and administrators forever and by these presents do freely fully & absolutely give grant bargain sell clear convey and confirm unto the said Jesse Norris his heirs executors administrators and assignes forever one messecage tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County: one hundred and fifty acres lying on the west side of the North East River on the upper side of oakey branch. Beginning at a water oak in the mouth of Pauls Branch on George Daugherty's line, thence down said branch on or near to William Jones' line South 65 East 130 poles to two pines by the old Ramling road, thence North 31 East 188 poles to a stake in the grassey branch pocosin thence North 65 West 130 poles to a stake a little to the No. east of George Daughtertie's corner, thence to and with Daughertie's line So. 31 West to the beginning. To have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises with all the appurtenances priviliges and commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining to him the said Jesse Norris his heirs Exec. Ajmins. and assigns to his and their only proper use benefit and behoof and I the said William Burton for my self my heirs, Execs. & admins. do covenant promise and grant to and with the said Jesse Norris his heirs assigns that before the ensealing hereof i an the true sole & lawful owner of the above bargained land and premises and am lawful seized and possessed of the same in mine own proper right as a good perfit and absolute state of inheritance in fee simple and have in my self good rightful power and lawful authority to give grant bargain sell alien convey and confirm the said bargained premises in manner as above said and that the said Jesse Norris his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time & at all times forever hereafter by force and virtue of these presents lawfull peacably and quietly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said demised bargained premises with all the appurtenances free and clear freely and clearly aquited exhonerated and discharged of from all & all manner of former or other gifts grants bargains seals leases wills mortgages intails jointress executions or any other incumbrances whatsoever furthermore I the said Wm. Burton for muself my heirs and assigns do covenant to and with the said Jesse Norris his heirs and assigns to warrant and defenc the said premises against the lawful claim of any person or persons claiming or to claim by through my heirs and and assigns or any of us. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this 16th day of January 1784 & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three.
