Wm. B. Southerland To Johnathon W. Williams
Deed of Gift Negro Harriot
THis Indenture made the fourth day of June in the year of our Lord eight hundred and thirty
eight between Wm. B. Southerland of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of
the one part Johnathan Wilder Williams a son in law of the said Wm. B. Southerlnad of
the State and County aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Wm. B.
Southerland hath this day for good caused and considerations but especially for the natural
love and affrection wich he hath for his said son in law Johnathon Wilder Williams give
grant and confirm unto the said Johnathon Wilder Williams and his heirs one certain negro
girl name hariot and aged about nine years and the aforesaid William B. Southerland doath
hereby bind himself and his heirs for ever to defend the lawful and proper title in and to the
aforesaid Negro girl Hariet unto the said Johnathon Wilder Williams his heirs against the
lawful claim or demand of all maner of persones in witnesseth where of the aforesaid Wm.
R. Southerland hath here unto set his hand and seal delivered the same day and date above
