(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 12 Page 60, 61, 62 Wilson Hodges to Robert Sykes Know all men by these presents that I Wilson Hodges of the County of Sumter & state of Alabama for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Robert Sykes of the same place at and before the sealing and delivery of these Presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained sold & delivered and by these presents do bargain sell and deliver unto the said Robert Sykes the two following Negroes (to wit) one Negro man named Isaac thirty years old more or less and one Negro woman named Elsey about eighteen years of age more or Less to have and to hold the said Negroes unto the said Robert Sykes his Executors Administrators and assigns to his and their own proper use and Benefit forever and I the said Wilson Hodges my Heirs Executors and Administrators the said Bargained premises unto the said Robert Sykes his Executors Administrators and assigns forever against all person and persons whomsoever shall and will warrant & forever defend by these presents In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of March AD 1838 Wilson Hodges Witness Present Thos J George Buckner Hodges The State of Alabama Sumter County Personally appeared before me Price Williams Clk of the County Court of said County Thomas J. George whom name appears to the forgoing instrument as an attesting witness who after being first duly sworn deposeth and saith that Wilson Hodges acknowledged as well in the presents of Buckner Hodges the other attesting witness as in the presence of this deponant that he signed sealed and delivered the forgoing instrument on the day of its date and for the purposes therein contained and this deponant further saith that he this deponant and said Buckner Hodges signed the same as witnesseth in the presents of said Wilson Hodges and in the presence of each other In testimony whereof I have unto subscribed my name this the seventh day of July AD 1838 Price Williams Clk By James Kean Dclk State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of please and Quarter Sessions July term 1839 The Execution of the within deed is duly proved in open Court by the oath of Buckner Hodges one of the subscribing witnessess thereto and is ordered to be Registered Copy N Routledge Rgr Test James Dickson Clk
