Wilson Hodges To Hollaway Hodges
Bill of Sale Record in office the ninth & recorded the twelfth of day of July 1838 in
Book C Page 289 Price Williams Clk By James Kean D Clk
Know all men by these presents that I Wilson Hodges of the County of Sumter and State
of Alabama For and inconsideration of the sum of three Thousand dollars to me in hand
paid by Hollaway Hodges at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the
receipt whereof I the said Wilson Hodges do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargained and sell unto the said Holloway Hodgers
his heirs and assigns the following property goods chattles and effects to wit two yoke
of oxen one ox wagon four head of horses nine feather beads and there furniturs bad stiads
&c all my house hold and Kitchen furniture two cows and calves four head oa any cattle
the following Negroes to wit Lour aged about fifty five years Lewis aged about thirty five
Patience about thirty Edmond about nine Nicia about thirty five Jane about six Wimra about
nine year of age all and singular of which said premises are now in the possession of the
said Wilson Hodges in the aforesaid County also the Judgments that I obtained in the Circuit
Court of said Sumtur County Dillard Paym at first term of said AD 1838 to have and to hold
all and singular the said property goods chattles Negroes house hold furniture Judgments
and effects above Bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be to the said Hollawas
Hodges his Heirs or assigns Executors or administrators forever and I the said Wilson Hodges
forever and I the said Wilson Hodges for myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators and
assigns against me the said Wilson Hodges my Executors and Administrators and against all
and every other person or persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by
these presents which said goods & chattles property house hold furniture Negfoes Judgments
and effects I the said Wilson Hodges have put the said Holliway Hodges in full possession by
delivering to Him the said seven Negroes at the sealing and delivery of these presents in the
name of the whole premises hereby Bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be unto
him the said Holloway Hodges as aforesaid witness my hand and seal this 18th day of June 1838

Personally appeared before me Price Williams Clerk of the County Court of said County Thomas
J George whose signature appears to the forgoing deed as an attesting witness who being first
duly Sworn deposetts and saith that Wilson Hodges acknowledged well in the presence of Robert
Sike the other attesting witness as in the presence of this deponant that he signed sealed and
delivered the forgoing Bill of sale on the day of its date and for the purpons therein
contained and the deponant further saith that he this deponant and said Sikes signes the same
as witnesses in the presence of said Hodges and in the presence of each other In testimony
whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this the seventh day of July AD 1838

It appearing to the satisfaction of the court Robert Sykes & Thos J George the subscribing
witnesses to the forgoing deed are not Residents of this State and the hand writing of Wilson
Hodges being duly proven in open Court by the oath of Holstead Bowden it was ordered to be
Registered
