William Whitfield To James Herring
Deed for 200 acres of lands
This indenture made the 19th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven
hundred and eighty two between James Herring of the County of Dobbs in the Sate of North Carolina
of the one part and William Whitfield Junr. of the County of Uleane and State aforesaid of the
other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds specie to him
in hand before the ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof I do acknowledge and confess
to be therewith fully satisfied contended and paid have given granted bargained and sold and
aliened conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell and aline
convey and confirm unto the said James Herring his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract
or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County in th State of North Carolina on the
No. side of the North East of Cape Fair on both sides of Poley Bridge Branch and on both sides
of the main road including Robertse's improvements. Begining at a white oak by a bottom running
thence South seventy two poles to a large pond So. 68 poles to a stake thence East 230 pole to
a pine thence No. 140 pole to a pine by the road thence West to the begining, it being a patent
granted by his Excelancy Richard Caswell Exqr. to Michael Wilkins bearing date 17th day of
December 1778 for two hundred acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the said
bargained premises with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining
to him the said James Herring his heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use
benefit and behoof of him the said James Herring his heirs and assigns forever and the said
William Whitfield for myself my heirs executioners administrators do covenant and agree to and
with the siad James Herring his heirs executors administrators and assigns that the said William
Whitfield hath in himself good right full power & lawful authority to sell and dispose of the
same in manner aforesaid by virtue of a deed from Michael Wilkins as a good perfect and absolute
estate of inheritance in fee simple and the said William Whitfield doth covenant agree to and
with the said James Herring his heirs and assigns may have hold use occupy possess and enjoy
the said lands and premises with the appurtenance without hindrance or molestation of the said
William Whitfield his heirs & assigns or any other person by from or under hin or them. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fixed seal this day and year above written.
