William Southerland To Solomon Carter
Deed for 150 acres lands
This indenture made this eighteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred & eighty five, between William Southerland in the province of No. Carolina and
County of Duplin of the one part. Witnesseth, that for & in consideration of the sum of thirty
pounds current money to me in hand paid by the said Solomon Carter before the ensealing &
delivery of these presents, the receipt thereof I acknowledge myself to be fully satisfied
contented and paid every part & parcel thereof, have given granted bargained sold aliened
confirmed & conveyed unto Solomon Carter his executors administrators or assigns forever, one
certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County aforesaid on the east
side of the North East, on a branch called Mathews branch, and upon both sides of the branch,
including an old former survey made for Robert Bishop. Begining at a small white oak on the
south side of said branch & on the west edge of a little branch called juniper branch said
Bishop's old corner, thence up the branch 60 pole to a maple, thence Wt. 127 poles to a black
jack on Stephen Braddy's line, as his No. 15 Wt. 60 poles to a black jack, thence crossing
Mathews Branch No. 140 to a stake, thence Et. 140 poles thence crossing the branch about South
to the begining, containing in the whole one hundred and fifty acres. To have and to hold
togeather unto the said Solomon Carter his heirs executors administrators or assigns forever,
and as for my part the aforesaid William Southerland my heirs executors administrators & assigns
doth hereby covenant & grant to & with the said Solomon Carter his heirs executors admin. or
assign, may and shall ever hereafter hold peacebly enjoy the said land and premises with all
benefits & appurtenances to the same belonging, only yielding and paying the yearly quit rents
that may become due furthermore for my part the said William Southerland my heirs executors
administrators and assigns by these presents doth forever hereafter warrent & defend against
the lawfull clame of any person or persons whatsoever, the aforesaid land and premises with
all benefits and appurtenances to the same belonging unto Solomon Carter his heirs executors
administrators or assigns. In witness, whereof I have set my hand & seal the day and year
first above written.
