(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 41 & 42 William Mercer To John Murrow Deed of 100 acres of lands This indenture made the tenth day of April in the seventy year of American Independence and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty three between William Mercer of the Sate of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and John Murrow of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Mercer for diverse good causes and considerations him therunto moving, but more expecially for the valuable consideration of the sum of twenty pounds specie to him in hand well and truly paid by John Murrow aforesaid, before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge to be therewith fully contended and paid hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned and set over to the said John Murrow his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on the east side of No. Et. River and North of Limestone swamp on both side of Lapman's branch a drain of Horse branch. Begining at a pine on said Mercer's line, thence as the same So. 55 Wt. 17 poles to said Mercer's corner and old pine thence as his other line North 40 Wt. 76 poles to a red oak thence So. 50 Wt. 116 poles to a stake 20 poles past on old corner, thence crossing Lapman's branch So. 40 Et. 134 poles to a stake, thence North 50 Et. 120 poles to a pine, thence No. 31 Wt. 40 poles to a pine, thence to the begining, containing in the whole one hundred acres be the same more or less, to have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature or jind whatsoever to him the said John Murrow his heirs and assigns forever, free from all former gifts, grants, mortgages, intails, dowers, right or title of dower or any other incumbrances whatsoever,given granted or done by him the said William Mercer or any other person whatsoever by from or under him and the said William Mercer the aforesaid land and premises shall and will warrant and forever defend to him the said John Murrow his heirs and assigns forever from and against him the said William Mercer his heirs and assigns as also from and against the just and lawful claim of every other person or persons whatsoever who may hereafter lay any lawful claim to the same and the said John Murrow the aforesaid land and premises shall and may have hold use occupy enjoy and possess as his own free and lawful inheritance, free from all incumbrances whatsoever the taxes as they may henceafter become due only excepted. In witness whereof the said William Mercer hath hereunto set his hand & seal the date above written. William Mercer Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us Hicks Mills William Nethercut State of North Carolina, Duplin County, July Court 1784.
