(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 359 & 360 William Smith To Josiah Stafford Deed 250 acres This Indenture made this tenth day of February and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and Eighty nine it being the thirteenth year of our Independence Between William Smith of the State of South Carolina and Winton County Planter of the one part and Josiah Stafford of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin Planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Smith for the Consideration of the sum of fifty pounds specie to me in hand paid by the said Josiah Stafford before the Ensealing and Delivering of these presents The Receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself fully satisfied and paid and have given granted bargained and sold conveyed and confirmed unto the said Josiah Stafford his heirs and assigns forever one Certain Tract or parcel Land situate lying and being in the County of Duplin and Stated of North Carolina it being by Estimation two hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less it being part of five hundred acres patened by George Smith Senior Patent bearing Date the first of July 1779 it lying on the East side of No. East of Capefere and on the head of Bruncoat Swamp. Beginning at a pine by the pond that Dreans into Tuccaho thence Wt. 170 pole to a pine thence crossing the head Branch of burncoat No. the Course of the said patent to the next small branch thence up the said Branch to the head to a Row of marked trees thence along said trees to the far corner a pine and blackjack on the falling Grounds Tuccaho thence dobbs line to the Beginning. The said Josiah Stafford he his heirs Exrs. Admrs. Or assigns. To have and to hold the said Bargained Land and premises to their only proper use benefit and behooffe and furthermore I the said William Smith do for my self my heirs Excrs. Admrs. Warrant and forever Defend the above bargained Land and and premises unto the said Josiah Stafford his heirs Executors admrs. Or assigns againt the Lawfull Claim of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal the day and date first above written. Signed sealed and Delivered William Smith In presence of George Smith Senior Lewis Barfield State of No. Carolina October Term 1791 Duplin County Then was the within Deed proved in open Court by the oath of Lewis Barfield and ordered to be Registered.
