Deed of Gift to Grandchildren
Transcription of Deed of Gift from James Williams, Sr. to His Grand Children Book 3B (38?) page 159 James Williams, Sr.} Deed of Gift S.E. Kenida, & others} This Indenture made this 17th day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & Thirty One, between James Williams, Sr. of the County of Duplin, State of North Carolina of the One part, & my Grand Children of the other part. Viz—Sary Eliza Kenida, James M. Kenida, & Lucy G. Kenida,Thomas Kenida & John W Kenida of the other part. Witnesseth that I the same James Williams, Sr., for divers causes but most “Specially for” and in consideration “ of the Love & affection that I bear to my Grand Children – Viz— Sary Eliza Kenida, James M. Kenida, Lucy G. Kenida, Thomas Kenida & John W. Kenida, do by these presents give, grant, & convey to my said Grand Children Sary Eliza Kenida, James M. Kenida, Lucy G. Kenida, Thomas Kenida, & John W. Kenida, One Negro wench named Penny, & a boy child named Simon, & their increase (?) --- If “any a one” of those Grand Children should die before any lawful issue for its part to return back to its Brothers & Sisters – which Negroes I do warrant & forever defend from my heirs & assigns forever, firmly by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this day & date above written. Test. Wm. Rhodes, Thos. P Hall James Williams {Seal} Duplin County May Term 1831. Then was the within Deed of Gift acknowledged in open Court & ordered to be registered. Th. Rout__? Test. Jos. Persall, Clk. The next document on this page Book 36 (3B?) page 160, is a gift from James Williams, Sr. to his son Merrill Williams of two Negro boys, Ely, aged about 14; and Peter, Sixteen.
