(Transcribed by Diane Siniard) Deed Book E Page 71, & 72 William Routledge To Joseph Smith Deed 50 acres State of North Carolina This Indenture made this Fourteenth day of February in the year of our one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven & first year of our Independence. Between William Routledge of the County of Duplin and State aforesaid & Joseph Smith of the State and County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Routledge for & in consideration of the sum of twenty five pounds Proclamation money to him in hand paid before the Ensealing & Delivery of these presents by the said Joseph Smith the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and him self therewith to be fully satisfied contented & paid & of every part & parcel thereof hath given granted bargained sold alliend Enfeoffed conveyed confirmed assigned & set over unto the said Joseph Smith and by these presents doth fully freely & absolutely give grant Bargain sell allien Enfeffe convey confirm assign and set over unto the said Joseph Smith his heirs and assigns forever all that Tract or parcell of Land situate lying & being in the State & County aforesaid on the north side of the Grove Swamp on the Eastern most side of a branch known by the name of the Mill branch or Smiths Branch. Begining at the mouth of said Branch runing down the run of the Grove Swamp about Twenty pole to an Ash John Millers corner at the run of the Grove swamp thence No 30 Wt 200 to a pine near William Routledges Mill dam thence No 60 East supposed 80 pole to a gum thence No 30 Wt. along William Routledges line 15 to an oak pine trees marked near the marsh pond & down a marked line near the main Road to the Mill Branch then down the stream of the Branch unto the Mouth where it Enters unto the Grove at the begining containing by supposition Fifty acres more or less. To have and To hold the above Bargained Land and premises with the appertainence therunto belonging to him the said Joseph Smith his heirs & assigns in as full a ample manner as he the said William Routledge could or might enjoy without the least set hinderance Molistation of Interruption of him the said William Routledge his heirs and assigns or without the said lett hinderence Molistation or Interruption of any other person or persons whatsoever & that free & clear & freely & set only acquitted of & from all & all manner of Gifts Grants Bargains sales leases Mortgages intails jointers Judgments Dowers Executions entents & Trouble of any kind whatsoever had made done or committed by him the said William Routledge his heirs and assigns except the yearly quitrents that may become due and the said William Routledge doth hereby Further covenant & engage to warrent & defend the said Joseph Smith his heirs & assigns in the quiet & peaceable possession of the above Bargained Land & premises against the just & Lawfull claim & demand of any other person or persons whatsoever claiming or to claim by form or under him his heirs or assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever.
