William Kenan To Jesse Brown
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made this 17th day of Jan.y 1786 between William Kenan administrator
of the estate of my Father Felix Kenan Esqr. deceased late High Sheriff of the County of
Duplin in the State of No. Carolina of the one part, and Jesse Brown of the County and State
aforesaid, planter of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said William Kenan administrator
as aforesaid , for and in consideration of twelve pounds proclamation money of the then
Province, now State of No. Carolina, to the said Felix Kenan then Sheriff of the County of
Duplin by Jesse Brown in hand paid the rect. whereof I do hereby acknowledge, the said Felix
Kenan by virtue of a recovery and judgment, in the infinor County of Duplin County against
James Moore late of the said County, did issue an execution for the aforesaid sum of twelve
pounds for the debt and cost of a writ, brought by Archabald Bell, then of the aforesaid
County the said Felix Kenan by virtue of the execution to him directed, did levy the same on
a certain tract or parcel of land part of a tract of land patend by John Brown situated on
the No. East side of Muddy Creek containing one hundred acres more or less. Begining on the
corner at the creek and runing an east course, then a South course to a corner, then West to
the creek, and from thence to first station, which said land leys between the land now John
Woodward's and John Magee's and the aforesaid Jesse Brown purchased the same for the debt, &
cost aforesaid of the said Felix Kenan in pursuance of an act of Assembly and said William
Kenan administrator as aforesaid the aforesaid one hundred acres of land, be the same more or
less agreeable to the aforesaid act of Assembly and sale by virtue of the said execution do
warrent and defend unto him the said Jesse Brown his heirs executors administrators or assigns,
forever and I the said William Kenan administrator aforesaid do by these presents, my heirs
executors or administrators warrent and defend the legality of the asle of the aforesaid Felix
Kenan Esqr. High Sheriff in the lawfull and peaceble possession of land (taxes or other
incumbrances by law excepted). In witness whereof I the said William Kenan have hereunto set
my hand and seal day & year first above written.
