William Hunter to John Phillips Deed 22 March 1790

(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 21, 22, & 23 William Hunter to John Phillips Deed 16 acres This indenture made the twenty second day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and Ninety, Between William Hunter of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and John Phillips of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Hunter for Diverse good causes and considerations him thereunto moving. But more Especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of Ten pounds current money of the state aforesaid to him in hand well and truly paid or secured to be paid by John Phillips aforesaid before the Ensealing and delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath by these present Granted bargained sold assigned and set over to the said John Phillips his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on the north side of the Grove Swamp. Begining at an ash tree on the grove Run the Lower Corner of a survey of one hundred and Forty acres patened by Edward Cannon thence along said Line north fifty eight poles to a gum in a branch or pond. Thence No. 70 East thirty eight poles to a water oak at the run of Ash branch, thence Down the Run of Ashe Branch as it meanders to the mouth about 60 poles thence up the Grove Creek of Run as it meanders to the first station. Containing in the whole 16 acres. Be the same more or less. To have and to hold the said sixteen acres with all the appurtenances to the same Begining or in any wise appurtaining to him the said John Phillips his Heirs and Assigns forever free from all former gifts grants mortgages intails wills Executions Entents or Troubles whatever Committed or done by him the said William Hunter or any other person or persons whatever by from or under him and the said John Phillips his Heirs and Assigns the aforesaid sixteen acres with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining shall and may have hold use occupy enjoy and posses as his own free and Lawfull Inheritance free from all Incumberances whatever given granted or Done by him the said William Hunter or any other person by from or under him and the said William Hunter the aforesaid Land and premises to the said Phillips his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever Defend from and against him the said William Hunter of all and Every other person or persons whatever who may hereafter Lay any Lawfull Claim to the same in Witness whereof the said William Hunter hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and date above written. Signed Sealed and William Hunter delivered in presence of Daniel Glisson State of No. Carolina Duplin County July Term 1790 The within Deed from William Hunter to John Phillips was acknowledged in open Court and ordered to be Registered.
