William Hooks To William Kenan
Deed 400 acres
This Indenture made the nineteenth day of September one Thousand seven Hundred and eighty
six and in the Eleventh year of American Independency between William Hooks of the State
of North Carolina and County of Duplin in the one part and William Kenan of Planter of said
County of the other part Witnesseth that for and consideration of the sum of three Hindred
and fifty pounds Current Money of the said State to him the said Willim Hooks in his hand
well and truly paid before the sealing and Delivery hereof by the said William Kenan the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged as for and in Consideration of said sum of Three
Hundred and fifty pouds Current money of the State aforesaid to him the said William Hooks
in hand well and truly paid before the sealing and Delivering hereof by the said William
Kenan the Recept whereof is hereby acknowledged as for and in consideration of the said
sum of three hundred and fifty pounds. Hath by these presents given granted bargained sold
conveyed confirmed assigned and set over unto him the said William Kenan and by these
presents for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators doth give grant Bargain sell
convey confirm assign and set over to the said William Kenan all that peice or parcel of
Land and Plantation in the State and County aforesaid on the South side of Goshen Swamp
between the Cross branch and wild Cat Branch being the place whereon the said William
Hooks formerly lived on and being the lower part of a Tract of land which Thomas Hooks
Purchased of William Cannon Junr. and which the said William Cannon Junior formerly
purchases of Henry McCulloh Esquire & which said Peice or Parcel of Land is Buted & Bounded
as follows to wit. Begining at a Maple at the mouth of the Cross branch in the Side of
Goshen Swamp William Cannon Senior uper corner Tree and Runs thence along his line up the
Cross branch So 40 Wt. 224 pole to a small white oak, and red oak saplin thence along
William Cannons Junor. line No. 66 West 40 pole to a large white oak in a small branch
thence down the Run of the said branch as it meanders to the Run of wild Cat branch thence
down the Run of Wild Cat branch as it meanders to Goshen Swamp,thence down the swamp with
Thomas Hooks line to the begining containin in the whole Two hundredn and ten acres of
Land and also one other Tract of Land containing Two Hundred acres lying and being in the
County aforesaid on the South side of Goshen Swamp and on the drans of the Cross branch
begining at a small white oak the said William Hookses corner tree of the above granted
premises on John Wards line by the Cross branch thence as Wards line Sout 40 West 28 pole
to a stake at his Corner thence along Wards other line South 50 East 152 poles to a pine
thence along his other line of a survey of Eighty acres South 40 West 128 poles to a pine
his corner thence the same Course sixty pole to the Road thence along the main Road No. 46
West 134 poles to Thomas Hooks line as his line North 18 East 14 poles to a pine his Corner
thence the same course along Thomas Hookses line of a new survey 168 poles to a Black jack
thence to the begining containing Two hundred acres as will more fully appear by a Patten
bearing date the Fifteenth day of December one Thousand seven hundred and Seventy Eight
and in the third year of American Independence be the same more or less To have and to
hold to him the said William Kenan his heirs and assigns forever all and singular the above
mentioned Tract containing in the whole Four Hundred and Ten acres of Land & Plantation.
Togeather with all the profits Hereditaments and benefits and advantages thereunto
belonging or in any wise appertaining unto him the said William Kenan his Heirs or assigns
as a good perfeck and absolute estate of Inheritance forever and the said William Hooks
doth hereby for him self his heirs Executors and Administrators covenant promise and agree
to and with the said William Kenan to keep harmless & indemnify him the said William
Kenan His Heirs and assigns forever in the Quiet and peaceable possession of the said
Four Hundred and Ten acres of Land and Plantation hereby granted and sold and the same
will warrent and secure and forever Defend From and against the just and Lawfull claim of
him the said William Hooks his Heirs Executors Administrators or assigns and from and
against the just and Lawfull Claim and Demand of all manner of Person or persons whatsoever
claiming or to claim by from or under Him them or any of them and that the said William
Kenan shall and may from time to time and at all times forever hereafter Lawfully peaceable
and quietly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the same as a good perfeck and absolute
estate of inheritance and that free and clear and freely and clearly Exonerated acquited
and Discharged of and from all & all manner of former Gifts grants Bargains sales leases
mortgages wills jointers Dowers judgments Executions and Entents and free and clear offourd
from all and all manner of incumberances or trouble whatsoever except the quitt rents
thereon now due and hereafter becominb due. In witness whereof the said William Hooks
hath hereunto set his hand and affixed His seal the day and date first above written.
