William Grimes to Will Hunter
This Indenture made the 29th day of March in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred
and seventy Eight Between William Grimes of the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina
of the One part and William Hunter of the same County and State of North Carolina of the other
part Witnesseth that the said William Grimes for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty five
pounds Current money of this State to him in hand well and truly Paid before the ensealing and
delivery of these presents the Receipt thereof the said William Grimes doth Hereby acknowledge
Himself therewith to be fully satisfied contented and paid Hath Bargained sold and forever
confirmed not the said William Hunter his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever
One certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County and State aforesaid on the
West side of the North East Branch of Cape Fear river and on the south side of percimmon branch
or swamp Between Rutherfords and W. Insorges land Beginning

Beginning at a white Oak on the side of percimmon swamp and Runs thence to and past Rutherfords
corner South 55 West 127 poles to a pine thence North 35 West 160 poles to a Stake thence North
55 East 70 poles to percimmon Swamp thence down the swamp to the Beginning Containing in the
Whole One Hundred acres of land be the same more or less Being the Content of a Pattent granted
to James Gillespie and after by a deed of conveyance from said Gillespie to Joseph Lockhart and
after By a deed proven of Conveyance from Lockhart to William Grimes in Pattent Bearing date
the Twenty second day of July 1774. To Have and to Hold to him the said William Hunter his
heirs Executors Administrators or assigns forever the above Bargained lands and premises such
as Buildings Orchards and an other appertainances thereunto Belonging as in any wise
appertaining of any nature or Kind Whatsoever he the said William Grimes for himself his heirs
Executors administrators and assigns the above Bargained lands and premises forever Warrant and
defend to him the said William Hunter his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever to
them and their only proper use Benefit and Behoof free and clear from all former Gifts grants
Judgments Mortgages dowers entails or any other Incumbrances given or Granted By him the said
William Grimes and Him The said William Hunter his Heirs Executors administrators the above
Bargained lands and premises shall and may from time to time and at all times hereafter Have
Hold use Occupy and possess as his Own free and lawfull Estate of inheritance in fee simple
free and clear from all let Hindrance incumbrance or Molestation from him the said William
Grimes his heirs Executors Adm’r and assigns The Quit Rents only Excepted In witness whereof
I the said William Grimes Have Hereunto set my hand and seal the day and Year above written
