(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 427, & 428 William Farrior To Joab Padget Deed for 190 acres lands This indenture made the twenty second day of January in the twelvth year of American Independence, & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty eight, Between William Farrior of the County of Duplin & State of North Carolina of the one part, & Joab Padget of the same place County & State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said William Farrior for divers good causes & considerations him thereunto moving, but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & fifty pounds current money of the State aforesaid to him in hand well & truly paid by the said Joab Padgtet, before the ensealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these presents given granted bargained sold released assigned & forever set over to him the said Joab Padget his heirs executors administrators & assigns forever, a tract or parcel of land containing one hundred & ninety acres, situate lying & being in the County of Duplin on the south side of Muddy Creek including the plantation & improvements made be the said William Farrior & lately occupied by John Parker it being part of the contents of two old surveys, one granted to Zebulon Hollingsworth for 150 acres bearing date 23rd May 1757, which by sundry conveyances became the property of the said William Farrior, the other granted to James Farrior, the patent bearing date the 15th day of April one thousand seven hundred & sixty five, & lef to John Farrior by his Father, & conveyed from John Farrior to William Farrior, bounded as follows, Begining at a spanish oak & red oak stump on the out edge of Muddy Creek swamp, near the field fine the first corner of the patent granted to the above mentioned Hollingsworth, also a corner of the patent granted to the above mentioned James Farrior, thence with the open line of Hollingsworth survey up the swamp No. 15 SWt. 75 poles to a gum a maple near the run of Muddy Creek, thence No. 85 Et. 30 poles to a poplar in the edge of the swamp & high land, thence the same course continued 139 poles to a pine a corner between said William Farrior & Job Thigpen, thence No. 83 Et. 20 poles to a large pine, thence No. 72 Et. 111 poles to a stake in the edge of a meadow on the back line of Farrior's patent, thence the patent line So. 10 WSt. 80 poles to a stake, thence So. 88 Wt. 80 poles to a slooping black jack, thence So. 60 Wt. 80 poles to a small pine, thence So. 73 1/2 Wt. 86 poles to a branch of oad saplins in the head of a little Mirey Branch in an old field at the upper end of John Farrior's Plantation, thence down the said Branch to a stake where Farrior's patent line crosses it when it runs from the spanish oak above mentioned & calls for a course So. 30 Wt. 80 poles to his line, thence with that line No. 30 Et. to the spanish oak the begining as above mentioned. To have and to hold the aforesaid tracts or parcel of land containing one hundred & ninety acres by estimation, be the same more or less, with all the benefits & profits to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Joab Padget his heirs executors admns. & assigns forever, & he the said William Farrior doth for himself his heirs & assigns covenant & aquit to & with the said Joab Padget his heirs & assigns forever, to keep & maintan them in the quiet & peaceble possession of the above bargained premises, & he the said Joab Padget his heirs & assigns may the above bargained land premises, have hold use occupie enjoy & possess as his own free & lawfull inheritance free & clear from all former gifts grants bargains martgages wills dowers of right or title of dowers, or any incumbrance whatsoever, as he the said William Farrior & heirs & doth warrant defend the said land untot he said Joab Padget his heirs and from & agains the just & lawfull claim of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof he the said William Farrior hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day & date above written. William Farrior Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us John Dickson Robert Bishop State of No. Carolina Duplin County January Term 1788.
