William Boykin To James Maxfield
Bill of Sale for a negroe girl called Beck
Know all men by these presents that I William Boykin of the County Southamptan for and in Consideration
of the sum of forty seven pounds ten shillings Current money of Virginia to me in hand paid by James Maxfield of
the County of Duplin in the State of No. Carolina The Receipt whereof I the said William Boykin do hereby
acknowledge have and by these presents do grant Bargain sell assign make over and deliver unto the said James
Maxfield and to his heirs and assigns one Negroe girl slave named Beck to have and to hold the said Slave Beck
unto the said James Maxfield his heirs and assigns forever and I do by these presents for myself my heirs
Executors and administrators Covenant promise and grant to and with the said James Maxfield his heirs and assigns
that I will warrant and forever Defend the Title of the said Beck unto him the said James Maxfield his heirs
and assigns against the Title Claim or Demand of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I the
said William Boykin have hereunto set my hand and Seal this fourteenth day of December in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred and Eighty nine.
