to } Deed 16 acres
John Phillps } This Indenture made the twenty second day of March in the year of
our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and ninety, Between William Hunter of the State of
North Carolina and County of Duplin of ;the one part and John Phillips of the same place of the
other part. Witnesseth that the said William Hunter for Diverse Good Causes and Consideration
him thereunto Having. But more Especially for the valuable consideration of the Sum of Ten
pounds current money of the State aforesaid to him in hand well and truly paid or Secure to be
paid by John Phillips aforesaid before the Ensealing and delivery of these presents the Receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged hath by these presents Granted Bargained Sold Assigned and Set
over to the said John Phillips his heirs and Assigns forever a certain lot Tract or parcel of
land situate Lying and being in Duplin county aforesaid on the north side of the Grove Swamp

At an Ash Tree on the grove Run the Lower Corner of a Survey of one hundred and Forty acres
patened by Edward Cannon hence along Said Line north fifty one poles to a Gum in a branch or
pond. Thence N570East thirty Eight poles to a Water Oak at the Run of Ash Branch thence down
the Run of Ash Branch as it meanders to the North about 60 poles thence up the Grove Creek or
Run as it meanders to the first Station. Containing in the whole 16 acres. Be the same more or
less. To have and to hold the said sixteen acres with all the appurtenances to the same
Beginning or in any wise appertaining to him the said John Phillips his Heirs and Assigns
forever free from all former Gifts grants Mortgages Intails and Executions Extents or Troubles
whatever. Committed or done by him the said William Hunter or any other person or persons
whatever by __?__ him, the aforesaid Sixteen acres with all the appurtenances to the same
belonging or in any wise appertaining shall and may have hold use occupy Enjoy and Possess as
his own free and Lawfull inheritance free from all Incumbrances whatever give granted or Done
by him the said William Hunter or any other person by from or under him and the said William
Hunter the aforesaid land and premises to the said Phillips his heirs and assigns shall and
will warrant and forever Defend for and against him the said William
