William Stevens To William Hurst Deed 1 April 1785

(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 252, 253, & 254 William Stevens To William Hurst Deed for 324 acres lands This indenture made this first day of April in the ninth year of the American Independence & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five between William Stevens of the County of Duplin in the State of No. Carolina of the one part and William Hurst of the same County and State afoaresaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Stephens for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred & fifty pounds specie to him in hand paid by the said William Hurst the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and of every part and parcel hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain & sell unto the said William Hurst two certain tracts of parcels of land, containing by estimation three hundred and twenty acres be the same more or less, lying and being in the County of Duplin aforesaid on the South side Goshen swamp and bounded as followeth to wit. one tract or parcel containing one hundred and forty two acres. Begining at two gums on the south side the run of Goshen swamp the upper corner of Samuel Hering's survey & runs along Herring's line So. 47 Wt. 154 poles to a Hickory said Stevens's corner, thence along his line No. 34 Wt. 64 pole to a pine his corner, thence along his other line No. 84 Wt. 54 pole to a black jack at the main road, thence along the road No. 12 Et. 164 to a lower wood & sweet gum by the swamp, thence No.62 Et. 34 pole to a black gum & maple by the ;run of Goshen swamp a little above the bridge, thence down the run as it meanders to the begining. The other tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and eighty two acres adjoining the before mentioned tract. Begining at the above mentioned two gums on the run of Goshen swamp and runs thence So. 47 Wt. 184 pole to a white oak by a small branch William Beck's corner, thence down the said branch as it meanders William Beck's line to the mouth thereof in the long branch, thence down Long branch as it meanders with the run til it empties into the run of Goshen swamp, thence up the run of Goshen swamp as it meanders to the begining. To have and to hold the said two tracts of parcels of land and premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said William Hurst his heirs & assigns forever, to the only use and behoofe of him the said William Hurst, his heirs and assigns forever, and I the said William Stevens for himself his heirs and administrators doth covenant, grant and agree to and with the said William Hurst his heirs and assigns, the said two tract or parcels of land and every part and parcel thereof against the right title claim and demand of all and all manner of persons forever, to warrent & defend. In witness whereof I the said William Stevens hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day and year first above written. William Stevens Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of us John Beck William Beck Williams Burnam State of North Carolina Duplin County April Term 1786.
