State of North Carolina Duplin County July term 1839
This Indenture made this tenth day of January In the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight
hundred & thirty nine Between Thomas Stanford & John Barden both of the County & State
afforesaid Witnesseth that the said Thomas Stanford have this day bargained sold & delivered
and do by these presents bargain Alien Enfeoff convey and confirm to the said John Bardin
Atract parcil of land situate lying & being in the State & County afforesaid on Both sides
of Alder Swamp Begining as follows Begining at a large White oak and gum down the corner
of Riches line at the mouth of a small Branch thence up said Branch as it meander 90 poles
to a gum Sapling at the head of said Branch thence with Riches other line No 47 Et. 34
poles to a pine his corner thence North 88 poles to a small pine near the head of Buck
Branch thence down said Branch No 80 wt 18 poles to a maple thence down said Branch as it
meanders to a water oak at the mouth of an old Ditch also at the mount of Buck Branch about
120 poles thence up saod Ditch No 84 Wt 18 poles thence So 32 wt 10 poles to a stake thence
No 70 wt about 20 poles to a mulberry tree thence up said Branch as it meander to a gum by
the path about 60 poles thence South by Et with said path about 70 poles to a pine thence So
30 wt about 100 poles with Samuel Stanfords line to a pine in the North Edge of a pond thence
No 83 wt 6 poles to a pine thence No 68 Wt 53 poles to a pine thence South 88 wt 26 poles to
a black jack thence South 66 west 22 poles thence South 76 wt 25 poles to a pine thence so 65
wt 33 poles to a black jack on the Est side of the Whippoorwill Branch thence South 20 Et 34
poles to a pine an old corner thence the old line joi8ning the Bush plantation So 20 Et 250
poles to a gum and water oak in the Spring Branch thence up said Branch No 70 Et 56 poles to
a gum thence with William Riches line crossing Little Elder No 32 Et 336 poles to a pine thence
his line No 50 Et about 10 poles to a Light wood stump thence to the begining containing by
estimation 554 acres be the same more or less to have & to hold the above said land and premises
With all the improvements for and inconsideration of the sum of seventeen hundred and fifty
Dollars to him inhand paid or otherwise secured to be I Thomas Stanford do for myself warrant
& defend the wright & title unto him said John Bardin his heirs & assigns &c forever-- in witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal day and date before written
