(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 166, 167, & 168 Thomas Rutledge To Henry Maxwell Deed 200 acres This Indenture made the 11th day of Febuary in the year of Lord one thousand seven Hundred and ninety one and in the 15th year of the Independence of America. Between Thomas Routledge Esquire of the County of Duplin of the one part and Henry Maxwell of the same of the other pert and Witnesseth that the said Thomas Routledge for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds specie to him paid by the said Henry the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. Hath bargained sold assigned and set over unto the said Henry Maxwell his heirs and assigns forever all that part or parcel of lant situate In Duplin County aforesaid on a Branch or Creek known by the name of Stolking head containing two hundred acres being one half of four hundred acres granted to John Miller Senior by Paten Bearing Date the 12th Day of November 1744 and sold at Publick Action by Felix Kenan High Sheriff of Duplin County aforesaid in pursuance to a Writ of Fi. Fo. the suits of Joseph Williams against the John Miller senior in Conformity to a Judgement of the Et. court Bearing Date the nineteenth Day of October 1779. when the said Thomas being The Highest bidder became the purchaser for the sum of ten pounds now know ye that the said Thomas Routledge Esquire Hath and Doth by these presents Bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said Henry Maxwell his Right TItle Interest property claim or demand of in or to the siad Lands hereby sold unto the said Henry contained in the following bounderies that is to say Begining at a stake and Runing So. 36 Wt. 28 Chains and 7 links to a pine thence No. 54 Wt. 70 chains to a pine thence No. 36 Et. 28 1/2 chains 71 links to a stake thence 70 chains to the begining and containing two Hundred acres by Estimation be the same more or less To have and to Hold the said two Hundred acres of Land hereby granted or Intended to be granted together with all the right members and appurtainces thereunto belonging or in any wise appurtaining to him the said Henry his Heirs and assigns forever free from the claim of Demand of him the said Thomas or any person claiming by from or under him his Heirs Executors admrs. assigns or any or Either of them And the said Thomas Routledge doth hereby further covenant and agree to and with the said Henry that he shall and may at all times have hold use and occupy the said Lands together with all Houses or Improvements thereon made known by the name of William Murphy's place free from the Cost let Molstation of Interruption of him the said Thomas or any person claiming by from or under him and the said Henry may and shall have hold use occupy and Enjoy the said Lands and premises as his own Lawfull Estate and Inheritance free from all former or other sales Mortgages intails Jointers judgements Dowers Executions Extents troubles or Incumberances of any kind or nature whatsoever made or done by him said Thomas In testimony whereof the said Thomas hath hereunto has set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first written signed sealed & Delivered In presence of Thomas Routledge James Gillispie Mary Rogers State of No. Carolina Duplin County April Term 1791 Then was the within Deed proved in open Court by the oath of James Gillispie and ordered to be Registered.
