(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 5, 6, 7 & 8 Thomas Hooks To Charles Hooks Deed Gift 750 acres State of No. Carolina Duplin County This Indenture made the first day of March in the fourteenth year of the American Independence and in the year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred ninty. Between Thomas Hooks of the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina of the one part and Charles Hooks of the same State and County son of the said Thomas Hooks of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Hooks as well for and in consideration of the natural Love and Affection which he hath and beareth unto the said Charles Hooks his Son as also for the better maintenance and preferment of the said Charles Hooks hath given granted aliened Enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth give grant, alien, enforffe and confirm unto the said Charles Hooks all that Messuage Tenement or parcel of Land Situate lying and being in the County of Duplin on the South side of Goshen Swamp and bound on the West side of wild cat branch, being a part subdivided from Sundry grants and Deeds of conveyance belonging to the said Thomas Hooks and is bounded as follows. Begining at a water oak on the North side of the main run of Goshen at John Rogerses line and runs thence So 35 Wt 120 pole to a pine. William Cannons old corner on the side of the Swamp thence a dividing line So 45 Wt 140 pole to a pine, thence So 15 Wt 78 pole to a pine, thence So 290 pole crossing Kings branch to a pine on the back line, thence East 100 pole to a pine, thence No 256 poles to a pine and water oak in wild cat branch, thence down said wildcat branch as the Run meanders crossing, the Road and runing between two plantations to Cypress a water oak and ask on the first Run in Goshen, thence No 30 Et 60 pole to a sweet gum on the main Run, thence up the main Run as it meanders to the begining and containing in the whole seven hundred and fifty acres with all and singular its appurtenances, and all Houses out Houses Lanes, waters, water courses clearing, orchards and improvements of every Nature and kind whatsoever, and the Reversion and Reversions remainder and remainders Rent and services of the said premises and all the Estate, Right, title, Interest property, claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Thomas Hooks, of in and to the said messuage or Tenement, lands and premises, and of in and to every part and parcel thereof with the appertenances To have and to hold the said Messuage or Tenement Lands and premises, hereby given and granted unto the said Charles Hooks his Heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoofe of him the said Charles Hooks his Heirs and assigns forever; and the said Thomas Hooks for himself his Heirs, Executors and Administrators doth covenant and grant to and with the said Charles Hooks his Heirs and Assigns by these presents, that he the said Charles Hooks his heirs and assigns shall and lawfully may from henceforth forever hereafter, peaceably and quietly have, hold, occupie, possess and enjoy; the said messuage, Tenement, Lands Hereditaments and premises, hereby given and granted or mentioned or intended so to be, with their appurtanances free, clear, and discharged of and from all former and other Gifts, Grants, Bargains, and sales, Feoffements, Jointures, Dowers, Estate, Entails, Rents, Charges, Arrearages of Rents, and off and from all other Titles, Troubles, Charges, and Incumberances whatsoever had made, committed, done, or suffered by him the said Thomas Hooks, his heirs Execr. or administrators or any other person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim by from or under him, thenm, or any or either of them. In witness whereof the said Thomas Hooks to these presents hath hereunto bset his hand and affixed his seal the Day and Date first above written Signed sealed delivered Thomas Hooks in the presence of W. Dickson F. McCarthy April Term 1790 Then was the within deed acknowledged in open Court and ordered to be registered. Test W Dickson C. C.
