(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 150, 151, & 152 Thomas Evans To Jacob Wells Deed 100 acres This Indenture made the second Day of January & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and ninety and In the thirteenth year of American Independence Between Thomas Evans of the County of Duplin planter on the one part & Jacob Wels of the same place Planter on the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Evans for and in diverse good causes and considerations himself thereunto Movint & consenting but more Expecially for the valuable consideration of the sum of Eighty pounds to him in hand paid or secured to be paid before the Ensealing Hereof the Receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge By Jacob Wels aofresaid that by these presents given granted Bargained sold and Delivered unto the said Jacob Wels his heirs Executors administrators & assigns forever and Messuage tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County and State aforeaid West side of the No. East River and on the Lower side of Island Creek swamp butted and Bounded as follows begining at a young white oak by a Branch a little above the mouth or fork of said Branch supposed to be at Mary Cooks Line thereon or near to her Line So. 50 Wt. 140 poles to Pine thence So. 40 Et. 115 poles to a pine thence No. 50 Et. 140 poles to a Pine thence No. 40 Wt. up by the side of Island Creek swamp 115 poles to the Beging containing one hundred acres be the same more or less To have and to hold the said Demised Land and premises with all the appertainances to the same belonging to him the said Jacob Wels his Heirs and assigns to have hold use occupy and Enjoy and possess as his own free & Lawfull Inheritance it being the contence of apatent granted to the said Thomas Evans bearing date the first day of July 1779 & Registerd in this Registers office in Book Letter E page 31st and as for me the said Thomas Evans my Heirs & assigns shall and will forever warrant & Defend the said Demised Land and premises to him the said Jacob Wells his heirs Executors admns. and assigns free and clear from all manner or former gifts grants bargains leases mortgage will Intails Jointers Dowers judgements Executions Extents of Troubles of Lawsuits or Incumberances whatever as also from and against the just and Lawfull claim of or claims of any other person or persons that may hereafter Lay any Lawfull claim or claim to the same in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal Date above written signed sealed and Delivered In the Presence of Thomas Evans Martin Wells John Evers Emanuel Bowser State of No. Carolina Duplin County April Term 1791 Then was the within Deed proved In open Court by the oath of John Evers and ordered to be Registered.
