Theophilus Williams To John Cook
Deed for 100 acres lands
State of No. Carolina Duplin County. This indenture made this fifteenth day of May in the
year one thousand seven hundred and eighty five, between Theophilus Williams of the County
and State aforesaid of the one part, and John Cook of the same place on the other part.
Witnesseth, that the said Williams hath for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds
to him in hand paid by John Cook, the receipt whereof I the said Williams doth hereby
acknowledge himself full satisfied contented and paid, and of every part and parcel thereof
hath given granted bargained sold conveyed & confirmed assign and sett over unto the said
John Cook his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being
in the County of Duplin and State aforesaid, on the south side of Bare swamp, and on the
west side of the Cattail Branch. Begining at a Post oak runing So. 45 Et. 112 pole to White
oak, thence No. 74 Et. 5o a poplar in the gum branch, Charles Hines's corner, thence down
the said gum branch to the Melting branch, then down the Melting branch the various courses
thereof to gum at the mouth of Cattail Branch, thenc up said branch to the begining, containing
in the whole fifty acres be the same more or less, being part of three hundred acres purchases
by Frederick Bell of Henry McCulloch out of his great tract of land, lying on the head of the
No. East and black river, as by the deed of said Bell will planly appear, and now I the said
Theops. Williams by these presents do make over tot he said John Cook his heirs & assigns
forever. To have and to hold unto him the aforesaid John Cook his heirs and assigns forever,
as forever, in as full & ample a manner as myself Theophilus Williams for himself his heirs
and assigns doth hereby declare and engage to & with the said John Cook his heirs and assigns
that at the time of sealing and delivering of these presents he the said Williams is the true
sole and lawfull owner of the said lands & hath in himself good right full power and lawfull
authority to sell and convey the said fifty acres of land and premises, and I the said Williams
doth agree to and with the said John Cook his heirs and assigns that the aforesaid John Cook
his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time lawfully peacebly and quietly have hold
use occupie possess & enjoy the above bargained premises and every appurtenances thereto
belonging or in any wise appurtaining in as ful and ample a manner as I myself, also one other
part or parcel of land begining at a pine in the head of a little Branch, thence along a line
of marked trees to Rawley Mill's back line, thence on said line to Hardy Malpas'es corner,
thence to the begining, supposed to be fifty acres be the same more or less, and I the said
Williams do make over this fifty acres in as full and ample manner as the other. As Witness
