Theophilus Williams To James Morris
Deed for 4 pieces lands
This indenture made the fifty day of August in the tenth year of the American Independence,
and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five, between Theophilus
William of the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina of the one part, and James Morris
of the County of New Hanover and State of No. Carolina aforesaid on the other part. Witnesset
that the said Theophilus Williams for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred pounds
current money to him in hand well and truly paid by the said James Morris, the receipt whereof
he doth hereby acknowledge and himself therewith to be fully satisfied contented and paid, and
of every part and parcel thereof do acquit and discharge the said James Morris his heirs
Executors & administrators forever by these presents, have given granted bargained sold conveyed
confirmed assigned & set over, and by these presents for himself his heirs executors &
administrators doth fully freely and absolutely give grant bargain sell alien convey confirm
assign and set over unto the said James Morris his heirs & assigns forever, four tracts or
parcels of land in Duplin County, on the hear of Bear swamp, joining William Guiy's line & on
both sides of the main road, To Wit. one hundred and one acres. Begining at a stake in the
dividing branch near Guiy's corner & runs So. 83 Wt. 40 pole to a pine, thence So. 45 Wt. 42
pole to a sweet gum in Bear Swamp by the main road, thence So. 14 Wt. 50 poles to a stake,
thence So. 56 Et. 142 pole to a white oak, thence Et. 20 pole to a stake in a branch, thence
down said branch to the mouth in Bear Swamp, thence up Bear Swamp to mouth of the dividing
branch, thence up the dividing branch as it meanders along Guiy's line to the begining, the
said land being part of McCulloch's great survey granted to Henry McCulloch by King George
the second grant dated March the 3rd 1745 & conveyed to Christopher Burch by deed dated the
seventh day of October in the sixth year of the reigh of King George the third King of Great
Brittain etc., & conveyed by the said Christopher Burch to Daniel Williams by deed of conveyance
bearing date the first day of July 1774, also two hundred acres joining the above mentioned
land. Begining at a stake in a branch Guey's corner above Guiey's old field and runs along
Burch's line No. 50 Wt. 142 pole to a stake, thence No. 14 Et. 60 pole to a sweet gum by the
road, thence along Burche's other line No. 45 Et. 102 pole to a white oak, thence No. 50 Wt.
126 pole to a stake, thence No. 45 Wt. 180 pole to a pine, thence So. 45 Et. 320 pole to a
pine, thence No. 43 Et. 76 pole to a water oak Wm. Guiy's corner, thence along Guiy's line to
the begining, the above two hundred acres was granted to Daniel Williams by a patent bearing
date the 22nd day of July 1774, also three hundred acres of land joining the above mentioned
lands. Begining at a pine and runs So. 50 Wt. along the line of his other survey 186 poles
to a white oak, thence So. 45 Wt. with his other line 60 poles to a pine, thence No. 83 Et.
40 pole to a gum Guey's corner & his own corner, thence No. 83 Et. along Guey's line 44 pole
to a red oak, thence along Guey's other line No. 31 Et. 102 pole to a gum in hogpen branch,
Guey's & Ward's corner, thence up the various courses of said branch (Ward's line) 192 pole
to a stake, thence Wt. 60 pole to a stake, thence No. 30 pole to Ward's line, thence Wt.
along Ward's line 60 pole to a pine, Ward's & Bell's corner, thence So. 81 Wt. along Bell's
line 93 poles to a pine, thenc So. 16 WTt. 130 pole to a pine in Bell's line, thence to the
begining, granted to David Williams by patent dated the first day of April 1780, also three
hundred acres of land joining the above mentioned land. Begining at a water oak his own &
Guey's corner & runs So. 43 Wt. along his own line 76 pole to a pine, thenc No. 45 Wt. 320
pole to a pine his own corner, thence No. 45 Et. 180 pole to a stake his other corner, thence
No. 50 Wt. 60 pole to a pine in a pond, thence So. 45 Wt. 240 pole to a pine Orson Bell's
corner, thence So. 45 Et. 570 pole to a stake Newton's line, thence No. along Newton's line
144 to a black jack Mills corner, thence No. 20 Wt. along Mills' line to the begining, granted
to Daniel Williams by patent date April the 1st 1780, all of which four several tracts of land
were granted & conveyed by the said Daniel Williams to the said Theophilus Williams by a deed
of bargain & sale bearing date the 2nd day of December 1783, and containing in the whole nine
hundred and one acres of land. To have and to hold to him the said James Morris the above
mentioned nine hundred and one acres of land & premises with all and singular the appurtenances
priviledges benefits & advantages thereon or thereunto in any wise belonging or appertaining
in as full and ample manner as he the said Theophilus Williams by his deed of conveyance for
the same could or might enjoy, and further the said Theophilus Williams for himself his heirs,
executors and administrators, doth covenant promise and agree to & with the said James Morris
that he the said Theophilus Williams his heirs executors and administrators, will warrent
secure and forever defend the said James Morris his heirs and assigns in the quiet and peacebly
possession of all and singular the above granted nine hundred and one acres of land and premises
from & against him the said Theophilus Williams his heirs executors & administrators, and from
and against all and every other person or persons claiming any right title interest, or
property of in and to the said lands hereby bargained & sold or any part or parcel thereof.
In witness whereof the said Theophilus Williams hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day &
date first above written.
