Deed Book 3A, pp465-6) Stephen & Sarah Hancock To William Hunter Deed 300 acres This Indenture made the twenty second day of March in the 22d year of American Independence & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & ninety seven, Between Stephen Hancock & Sarah Hancock each of the State of N Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part, and William Hunter of the same County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Stephen Hancock & Sarah Hancock for divers good causes & considerations them thereunto making but more especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of eighty pounds current money of this State to them in hand paid or secured to be paid by William Hunter aforesd before the ensealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned & set over to the said William Hunter his heirs and assigns forever, one certain lot tract or parcel of land, situate lying & being in the County of Duplin & State aforesd on the south side of Muddy Creek & South side of Jumping run a branch of Stafford Swamp. Beginning at a Cypress on the run of Jumping run, thence runing So 160 pole to a pine, thence So 70 E 300 pole to a lightwood tree, thence No 20 E 136 pole to a Gum on the run of said branch, thence down said branch as it meanders to the beginning; Containing in the whole 300 acres be the same more or less, it being the whole of a pattent of 300 acres granted to William Collins the 10th day of November 1790, & sold from William Collins to Stephen Hancock, & sold from Stephen Hancock & Sarah Hancock unto William Hunter To have and to hold the sd bargained land & premises with the appertainances to him the said William Hunter his heirs and assigns forever, free from all incumbrances whatever, & the said Stephen Hancock & Sarah Hancock for themselves & their heirs the foresaid land & premises to him the said William Hunter his heirs and assigns shall & will warrant & forever defend from & against them the said Stephen & Sarah Hancock their heirs & assigns as also from & against the just & lawful claims of all & every Page 466. other person or persons whatever who may hereafter lay any lawful claim to the same.
