(Transcribed by Hunt Sanders) (Duplin Co, NC. Deed Book D, pp25-6) Stephen Middleton to William Hunter – 210 acres To all to whom these presents shall come. Know ye that I, Stephen Middleton of Duplin County in the Province of North Carolina, Planter in consideration of the sum of one hundred thirty pounds in sterling paid by William Hunter of the same County otherwise aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself therewith fully satisfied & contented thereof & of every part & parcel I do exonerate, requit and discharge the said Wm Hunter his heirs exer admr & assigns forever by these presents having given granted bargained & sold aliened enfeoffed conveyed & confirmed & by these presents do freely fully & absolutely do give grant bargain alien enfeoff convey & confirm unto the said Wm Hunter his heirs & assigns one certain tract of land situate lying & being in the County of Duplin in the said province of North Carolina on Ash Branch beginning at a Persimmon on the run of Ash Branch in the mouth of Alex’r Branch then running the main course of the said branch to a white oak the on 202 poles to a large pine thence S34W214 pole to a white oak then 56 N 5W 106 poles to a small pine then S24 W fifty poles to a Bay in the head of ash Branch thence running down the various courses thereof as it meanders to the first station, containing by survey 210 acres of land be the same more or less, to have & to hold by them with all House wood timber ?__ fence underwood water ways & all appurtenances thereunto belonging with all privileges advantages profits in any way belonging or appertaining to the premises or any part thereof to him the said Wm Hunter his heirs liens & assigns forever to his & their only proper use benefit & behoof forever & I the said Stephen Middleton for myself my hirs liens admr covenant promise and grant to the said Wm Hunter his heirs exers & admr that & before the __?__ & delivery of these presents I am lawfully signed & possessed of all the above land and premises & have in myself good right- full power & lawful interest Page. Estray and sell convey & confirm the same unto the said William Hunter his heirs assigns in manner as aforesaid & that the said William Hunter his heirs & assigns shall cause prove be as they yielding paying the yearly dues to the said State from the sail of the presents & he the said Wm. Hunter shall & may from time to time & at all times forever hereafter lawfully peacefully & quietly have hold use occupy possess & enjoy all singular the above premises with all the appurtenances free & clear acquitted exonerated & discharged of & from all warrants forever and gifts grants bargains sales leases & mortgages with intact sources judgements executions encumbrances of any land nature or rent whatsoever. Furthermore I the said Stephen Middleton for myself my heirs executors & administrators do hereby warrant & engage all & singular the above bargained premises and the said Wm Hunter his heirs & assigns forever against the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever hereafter do warrant serve & defend. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fixed my seal the 10th day of Octgober one thousand seven hundred and eighty three.
